Draught at the brewpub. Pale amber with small head. Fruity nose with vague phenols and beechwod smoke. Malt sweet with medium body. Very soft and cottony with careful tarry smoke and low bitterness. Mild and well balanced.

Had this around the same time as the Spezial Rauch Lager. Both were very similar. Pours clear gold with a short white head. Smoky sweet nose. Sweet taste, kind of a pilsener with a smoky finish. Fair mix of malt and hops. Okay.

Pours light golden with big white lasting head. Aroma is sweet and of malt with a very mild smokiness. Flavor is malty with a more pronounced smoke flavor. Starts of medium-bodied and sweet but finishes dry. Surprisingly refreshing for a smoked beer.

16.9 ounce bottle purchased at BevMo in Vacaville. I hope this is good, cause it cost me $5. Aroma initially has plenty of toast and biscuit malts. There is also a lager-like metallic aroma, too. There is a light amount of smoke present retronasally. I would say the aroma on this is pretty well balanced compared to the more extreme versions of this style. Transparent golden body with a pretty frothy white head that laces a good deal. Has a light, sweet toasted malty flavor to begin with, before this becomes pretty smoked in the middle. Finishes surprisingly hoppy. There is a pretty sharp dry, herbal hoppiness in the finish. This actually overpowers the smoke flavors. It’s like a smoky IPA in a way.

I saw this at bevmo and didn’t know what it was, but I know how much I like smokebeers so i picked it up. Pours a clear darker gold with a small head. smells like smoked wood, has some bacon in the finish. i loved the crisp lager backbone in this one and there was almost as much smoke in this as the aecht urbock (however you spell it). a little more light bodied than the urbock but that’s to be expected in a lager. I didn’t know this was so rare, maybe I should pick up some more. Really glad I picked this one up.

500 ml bottle: poured golden yellow with a medium sized white head. Very mild smoked malt aroma. More hops than smoke. Flavor was quite nice with just a wee bit of smoke and some mildly citrusy hops. Finishes thin. I kind of like it.
