UPDATED: DEC 21, 2013 fresh bottle. clear semi-dark amber body with a small white head. vibrantly
toasty and nutty nose with substantial mineral / calcium wafts as it lives and breathes in the glass. unrealistically creamy and soft in the mouth as most of the other Weiherer brews have proved to be. medium-low carbonation, creamy froth and superb malt expression of toasted grains, nuts, semi-sweet vanillian, light touches of whiskey malt, bread crusts, seeds, nut oils, light caramel tinged butterscotch stroopwafel, etc., you get the picture. simply put, this is a dunkel with massive depth, and it’s a shame that such a style at it’s best is still unappreciated because it lacks sexiness. well, this one is full of finese and character but that doesn’t go very far in today’s world of beer. now that that is said, i’ll conclude by saying that these guys are doing everything right with their malt, and proving themselves one of the most capable breweries in Franconia, no question.
Update 2013: I believe the days of 4.0+ lagers from Kundmüller are over now that they have expanded and moved bottling to a separate facility. The quality is now poor and the bottling inconsistent, so buyer beware.

50cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Clear copper amber colour, white head. Aroma of toast, burnt caramel, herbal hops, nuts. Flavour is medium-sweet, malty, toast, roasted whole grains, husks, ontbijtkoek, nuts, good light-spicy hoppy bitter finish. Light-bodied. Nice, but more an Alt than a Dunkel IMO.

Bügelverschlußflasche: Clear, copper coloured, small stable off-white head; dryish caramelly-nutty nose, some uncertain hop-bitterness underneath, some fruitiness detectable; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied, low carbonation; lingering nutty-caramelly and fruity finish, followed by delicate hops in the aftertaste. Good franconian quality, as - almost always - usual......

(bottle) pours a clear copper colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of straciatella and oranges, slightly resinous, with notes of delicately roasted malts, raisins and herbal hops. flavour is mostly the same, slightly more malt-driven, but still fragrantly fruity and quite chewy. medium-bodied with average carbonation. a rather different but excellent dunkles.

Swing-top by 16.11.12. Nose caramel, toffee, dust, and some really nice stuffy hops, various cracker and barn notes. Taste is pushing that caramel heavily, sticky with roast and fruit. Bitter and spicy hop notes, but also too much booze. Don’t care, though, tastes too good. Medium body.

Copper-red in the glass, nose is malty-sweet. The beer starts quite flat, not too much aroma, but nice subtle parts of malt and hops. Slightly sour. The mainpart is nice smooth, a bit dry and nice roasted. In the aftertaste the beer stays malty-dry, slightly roasted and malty. Nice slightly hopped.
--> great beer! easy to drink and not too boring. --> 11/14/12/12

I love the Weiherer bottle design! The beer in the glass is dark amber colored with flat head. It smells very malty, roasty, smoky and very bready. Starts very malty, grainy, again with lots of bready flavor. In the background slightly roasty with some aroma hops. Goes into a very bready-grainy and sweetish finish with delicate nuances of aroma hops!
