When you get to that time of day when that cup of hot coffee is no longer the answer, and you need something with a little extra kick, plait your bear, stick on your eye patch and grab a Black Perle. This milk stout is chock full of roasty malts, milk sugar, hopped with hand full’s of perle plundered from the unsuspecting and aged on a chest full of Zamorana coffee beans.

UPDATED: SEP 21, 2016 Draft at Bru Craft. Looks and smells like coffee. Tastes of roasted malts and glossy coffee sugar candies. Hints of vanilla, hazelnut, currants, and chocolate liquorice. Smooth but feels watery for a Milk Stout. Not overly sweet. Not overly bitter. Not overly complex.

Bottle from Hops & Crafts Exeter, pours black with a foamy beige head. Aroma of fresh coffee, some roasted malt & fruit notes. Taste coffee up front with dark malts ,roast, dark chocolate ,lactose & so,e fruit, light bodied ,smooth & slightly chewy, perfectly carbonated ,good mouth feel ,the finish is dry, roasty , & creamy ,not as sweet as expected for a milk stout ,which is good in my opinion . Really well made low strength stout that tastes bigger than its strength !

Pitch black with a dark cream head. Pours very lively and keeps it’s head. Smells of coffee with chocolate undertones. Tastes very sweet coffee. Not a fan.

On tap at the Euston Tap. Dark brown, off white foam. Mild roastiness, sweet lactic almost sugary character, then strong iced coffee flavour. Getting a bit bored of gimmicky coffee beers but this was actually quite nice.

Bottle – pours a dark brown almost black colour with a thick frothy creamy light brown coloured head. A cappuccino coffee aroma including the chocolate. Moderately sweet coffee flavour, a little cocoa and a gentle spicy bitter finish.

Medium beige head. Barely translucent deep dark red body. Fruity dusty cocoa aroma with herbal cedar wood notes. Dryish mealy fruity herbal taste with cocoa and cedar wood notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mealy mouthfeel. Dry roasty fruity cocoa aftertaste with dusty floral notes. Lovely. Harmonic and easy-drinking. (0.5l draft at Gulating Restaurant, Lillestrøm. ABV listed at 3.8%.)

Nice light brown creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly rich and dry roasted, espresso, dark malts, minerals, lactose, nuts, caramel, chocolate, mild grassy smoked chillies, hops. Taste is dry roasted, weeds, roasted grain, minerals, mild espresso, grass, hops, lactose, burnt caramel, cocoa, mild grassy chillies. Medium bitterness, slightly dry mineraly mouthfeel. The first sip is very burnt and dry mineraly. But the taste kind if grows on you, so it ends up pretty nice, specifically for the low ABV. Still, it could have been pretty amazing if the taste had lived up to the lovely aroma.
