When you get to that time of day when that cup of hot coffee is no longer the answer, and you need something with a little extra kick, plait your bear, stick on your eye patch and grab a Black Perle. This milk stout is chock full of roasty malts, milk sugar, hopped with hand full’s of perle plundered from the unsuspecting and aged on a chest full of Zamorana coffee beans.

August 20, 2013 - on hand-pull cask at Craft Bee Co, Islington. Dep light-looking ruby/black With a smallish lasting tan creamy head. Aroma if nutty, sweet roast Jd fairly deep herbal bitterness, taste follows, not as sweet with some lactic tartness - light slick body, okay liveliness and a quick finish; could be more assertive but solid.

Cask @ cask pub and kitchen, small sample. Dark color, short brown head. Aroma of earthy hop, sweet cookie, bit chocolate, biscuit, hint of coffee. Bit sweet taste, cookie. Though not really in a way other milk stouts are sweet, not from lactose sugar it felt. Nice beer.

Aroma: Twiglets, burnt coffee, ash and milk chocolate.

Appearance: Dark brown body with a medium tan head. Excellent lacing.

Taste: Very ashy and bitter. Peppery and biscuity with a hint of milk chocolate. Flavoursome but not particularly appealing or moreish.

Palate: Medium body with a watery, slightly oily texture. Soft carbonation.

Overall: Tastes extremely ashy and peppery - not the most pleasant of flavours but there’s a huge amount of flavour for such a low alcohol beer (this bottle was 3.5% ABV).

Keg at Hanging Bat. Pours dark Brown with a Cream head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. The flavour has a good wack of coffee and distinct milky chocolate. There’s also some ashy burnt toast. The sweetness of the lactose is there but not really prominent. Very nice.

Cask at CBC Brixton. Very dark with thin head. Vanilla, licorice, coke, dark rum aroma. Taste isn't as complex, but is good. It's the same as the aroma but in smaller doses. Fairly light, a touch too light bodied maybe. Nice bitterness at the end. Good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
