When you get to that time of day when that cup of hot coffee is no longer the answer, and you need something with a little extra kick, plait your bear, stick on your eye patch and grab a Black Perle. This milk stout is chock full of roasty malts, milk sugar, hopped with hand full’s of perle plundered from the unsuspecting and aged on a chest full of Zamorana coffee beans.

Craft Clerkenwell. Cask. Opaque dark brown beer, little pale tan head. Palate is light and airy and slightly soft. Light touch of dark malts, tangy. Little dark fruits and a whisper of dark chocolate. Super light roast malt. Pretty modest coffee. Citrus peeping through in the semi dry finish. A lot going on here for such a modest abv stout. Decent.

Cask at the Cock Tavern - London. Pours dark brown with a thick, mocha cream head. Quite a bit of mocha on the nose, soft roast. Light to medium sweet flavor with char, some chalky roast, slight minerals and baking cocoa. Light bodied with smooth, silky carbonation. Fairly earthy and bitter to finish, lots of bittersweet baking cocoa, moderate toast, some burnt coffee grounds. A really nice, depthy and sessionable stout.

Bottle at Googies Folkestone. Black beer lasting tan head. Chocolate dark chocolate and some spiciness on the aroma. It’s a slightly harsh milk stout with lots of coffee. Wow stunning. Not too much lactuc but it is there. I don’t normally like milk stout but this is good. It’s good. Some bitterness on the finish. Excellent. Given I don’t like the style. Lactose increases as it warms up. Still for a style that normally makes me retch this is good.
