3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On draft, at The Local Pub, in Athens. Nearly black pour, with a lovely creamy tan head. Roasty aroma - malts, chocolate, coconut. Balanced bitter-sweet taste kicks off with loads of chocolate, dark fruits, darker malts, and a gentle hint of coconut. Then some IPA hoppy bitterness to finish and linger. Lovely rich, full mouth feel (especially given its fairly low abv). We fed this to milk stout and chocolate porter fans - you know, the folks who canít take insane levels of IPA bitter brutality. After their initial "but I donít drink IPAs" protests, they were very very very happy little people. So was I. (Although some hopheads might look for more bitterness, more coconut.) I, however, am going back for more. Lots more. While itís still on draft. (And itís a hot, hot Greek summer, which tells you how good it must be, if Iím nevertheless delighted to be pouring thick rich chocolatey black stuff down my neck.)

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Keg at PSBH, Manchester. Dark with a short tan head. Malty aroma with coffee showing through. Instant wash of coconut flavour in the taste. Behind this lurks dark malt before finishing with tongue-sapping bitterness. Not much fruitiness or other hop flavours imparted. This didnít seem to come off perfectly but the coconut comes through well and it makes for an interesting change.

1st June 2014
Opaque black beer, small pale tan head. Palate is slightly soft with fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts. The coconut marries well to the dark chocolate element of the malts giving a Bounty Bar vibe. Touch of dark fruits. Chocolatey finish. As other raters have said, not much CDA character here but itís a nice beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Beer Central, Sheffield. Clear, very dark, reddy brown. Halo of tan head. Ground hazelnut. Milk chocolate. Light, roast malt. Coconut (milk), right at the end. Taste is dry. Light bitter. A light saltiness, in there, too. Smooth, milky palate. Fruity, rising bitter finish. A tad odd.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Got a coconut whiff on opening but now just smells of coffee / chocolate, nice though a little metallic and sort of creamy. Mm, lovely soft texture, not as coconutty as I was hoping but a nice roast coffee flavour with little notes of burnt chocolate. The texture makes this beer so moreish and the bitter burnt notes so tasty. If only it had the extra edge of being actually coconutty

brown, black, clear, minimal head, white foam, lightly bitter, light sweetness, the coconut taste is quite subtle which is good if you wanted a subdued beer but not if you wanted it to be quite coconutty. stick with fade to black although i think both beavertowns black betty and sirens 7 seas are better than this. bottle at the bottle shop, canterbury,

Cask conditioned handpump Harp London 27/05/14. A black beer with a tan bubbly head. Nice roasty notes with hints of coconut. The nose is less pronounced than the mouth. Good depth and flavoursome where roast dominates everything especially the hops. Certainly tasty.
