Black India Pale Ale. Sounds wrong, but tastes so right! An innovative new style challenges your preconceptions about how a dark beer should taste? Fade to Black is darker than a Metallica album cover and hoppier than a box of frogs on pogo sticks, this beer has a fascinating interplay between the fruity hops, dark toasted notes from the malt and the spicy rye.

BATCH 50, ABV 7.3%. 330ml bottle from, I think, Kris Wines. Pours a deep black with cream head with a big hit of toasted malts from the start. Dusty cocoa, rubber and a whisper of bitter liquorice. Quite a nice balance, not too rich, thus making it very drinkable for the ABV.

Bottled. Pours black with a large, tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, pine and citrus. Sweet flavor that ends up dry and bitter. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft carb. A nice black IPA indeed.

Bottle. Near black with a beige head. Aromas are nutty toasted coffee with toffee and chocolate. Cookie dough with woody and floral pine. Flavours are nutty coffee and bittersweet dark chocolate. Dark berries with gritty cocoa and green, peppery and soapy pine. Very easy to drink. Good.

For a black IPA it comes across the palate like a pack of Skittles..... Taste the rainbow! Extremely fruity and with a bitter dark chocolate malt finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(bottle 05/03-2014) Low light brown head, black color, hoppy aroma, roasted some bitterness, rather balanced. Batch #0035, bottled oct-13, BB date oct-14.

Deep dark ruby color, tiny beige head. Ash, caramel, some citrus hops in the nose. Medium-bodied. Flavor is similar to aroma. Some citrus mixed with roastyness and ash. Nothing wrong here but it’s a beer to drink just one pint.

Bottle at RBWG 2014, thanks! Pours near black with a dark brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has a nice combination of of earthy pine and dark grains with a bit of roasted malts underlying. Flavor has a nice earthy dark grain note with grass and an underlying pine note.
