Black India Pale Ale. Sounds wrong, but tastes so right! An innovative new style challenges your preconceptions about how a dark beer should taste? Fade to Black is darker than a Metallica album cover and hoppier than a box of frogs on pogo sticks, this beer has a fascinating interplay between the fruity hops, dark toasted notes from the malt and the spicy rye.

Ingredients:
Grains: Pale, Crystal, Crystal Rye, Chocolate, Carafa III
Hops: Summit, Citra, Sorachi Ace

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines. Pours black, with nice lasting frothy tan head. Lovely roasty taste, leaves a nice impression.

Shared bottle at RB/HD gathering at Tau 18.10.14. Aroma and taste of lime, grapefruit, sour coffee and sour caramel. Lime, citrus and sour dark malt in aftertaste.

0,33l bottle at RBHD-gathering, Tau, Oct-2014. Clear, deep ruby mahogany body with a light brown film. Vanilla, pollen, port on the nose. Dry, mellow coffee, dried fruits and faint liquorice on the nose. Medium to full bodied. Long aromatic finish.

Shared 330 ml bottle at local tasting. Black colour, tan head. Pleasant aroma of American hops, citrus and pine. Also roasty notes. The flavour has piney hops and roasty coffee notes, but they don’t blend in quite as harmoniously as in some other black IPAs. Still a good beer.

Bottle from Beer Ritz courtesy of the parents. Pours black with a tan head. Start off with some nice pine notes and a little spice before coffee notes. The pine seems to make a return in the bitter aftertaste. Really nice.

Strong coffee aroma and alcohol flavour were the first that hit me. But after finishing half of the glass i got used to them and the beer continued to taste better and better. I ended up buying another one.

Poured. Roasted malts in aroma. Grainy, cocoa, cofee and ash hints. Hoppy with some sour notes in taste - it disturbs me a bit. Not so full body, drinkable.

Black, very hoppy, a bit of coco and chocolate. Good lacing. Overall need to taste if you have a chance.

Tap pour@10e Arch’en Bičres 08/2014. Luscious, oily, and still restrained interpretation of the style, marked by a thoughtful balance. Both hops and malts radiate complementing arrays of fruity aromas: milk chocolate and plum meet red grape, maracuja, citrus. Rye spice gives it some extra punch, else very smooth and moreish.
