Black India Pale Ale. Sounds wrong, but tastes so right! An innovative new style challenges your preconceptions about how a dark beer should taste? Fade to Black is darker than a Metallica album cover and hoppier than a box of frogs on pogo sticks, this beer has a fascinating interplay between the fruity hops, dark toasted notes from the malt and the spicy rye.

Poured. Roasted malts in aroma. Grainy, cocoa, cofee and ash hints. Hoppy with some sour notes in taste - it disturbs me a bit. Not so full body, drinkable.

Black, very hoppy, a bit of coco and chocolate. Good lacing. Overall need to taste if you have a chance.

Tap pour@10e Arch’en Bières 08/2014. Luscious, oily, and still restrained interpretation of the style, marked by a thoughtful balance. Both hops and malts radiate complementing arrays of fruity aromas: milk chocolate and plum meet red grape, maracuja, citrus. Rye spice gives it some extra punch, else very smooth and moreish.

Bottled. Black beer, thick creamy head. Strong roasty malt aroma with hints of coffee and smoke, piney and mixed fruity hops. Dark and roasted malty body, loads of licoricy roast, dryfruits and some salt, resinous hop flavor. Finishes bitter with balancing touch of caramel. Medium body, slightly oily maltiness.

Bottle at Duke’s Brew. Pours black with tan head. Aroma has coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, slightly sour. Taste is medium sweet, medium bitter, coffee, chocolate, fruity notes, slightly sour. Aftertaste is bitter with chocolate flavour, very smooth, soft carbonation. What a great beer. Fully flavoured and perfectly balanced. Excellent.

On tap @ 10th Archenbieres Festival (24/08/2014).
Magnifique!

Pours a very dark but not impenetrably brown color with a tan head that leaves lacing on the glass. Nose has citrusy and resiny, hoppy aromas along with coffee, caramel and dark syrup. Taste is hoppy bitter and roasty with coffee and caramel notes. Carbonation is medium and the palate is quite rich and ample. This is very nice, the taste and aromas are excellently balanced, smooth and pleasant.

Cask at Craft Beer Co, Covent Garden on 6th July 2014. Black with tan head and scattered lacing spots. Rich and intense roasty aroma with coffee and plum harmonising. Intense roastiness and fine grapefruit in-mouth with plum and nuttiness - hazelnut. Roasty nutty and bitter finish is long lasting, rich and intense with spicy notes. Engaging texture and plenty of body. Truly exquisite. I had a second!
