Pacific Northwest meets Pacific Southeast as the best of American and New Zealand hops meld together with just enough malt backbone to allow them to sing. A riot of mango and passion-fruit on the nose but balanced enough to drink by the bucketful. Dive in and grab another bottle but donít get the bends.

Grains: Pale, Vienna, Munich, Cara-Pils
Hops: Citra, Pacific Gem

Weird Beard was on my list of beers to try in the UK but I had no chance to try it their. I brought home their decadent stout and it burst out of the can in my bag on the way back so I picked this up for 600 yen at CRAFT BEER BASE. Coincidentally it is also a NZ hopped beer but this 5.3% beer is a Pale Ale rather than Kirinís 5.5% "IPA". Pouring a nice copper gold with a solid head of foam it has a fantastic juicy tropical fruits aroma. Light bodied with a slick mouthfeel, itís quite bitter giving some butteriness and astringency with a ton of hops. I get the feeling this may have suffered heat damage in transit. The hopping is subdued but this 7 month old beer (Batch 155) gives citrus, mango and grapefruit notes. Alright but I should have tried something of theirs fresh in the UK but I only saw bombers and a few canned beers. Prices were in the 2-3£ range each(4£ possibly?) so Japanís prices arenít that bad but hoppy beers need to be fresher.

Bottle. Nice spruce-y hops. Touches of citrus throughout. Good malt base. Slightly crisp, bitter finish. Simple in a way, but gets an APA right.

Bottle. Light gold with a thick white head. Nose is mango, peach and a slight toffee. Warm, bubble-free and surprising in the mouth. A really pleasant warm mango/peach cocktail - give it a wiggle and you can get some lemon and pineapple. Nicely malty. Absolutely fabulous!

On tap at Dukeís. Really great fruity nose, strong malt backbone and decent amount of bitterness for an APA. More flavour than most of the London íIPAsí getting around. Best pale Iíve had in a while.
