Pacific Northwest meets Pacific Southeast as the best of American and New Zealand hops meld together with just enough malt backbone to allow them to sing. A riot of mango and passion-fruit on the nose but balanced enough to drink by the bucketful. Dive in and grab another bottle but don’t get the bends.

Grains: Pale, Vienna, Munich, Cara-Pils
Hops: Citra, Pacific Gem

I thought I was tasting this for the first time and was going to tick it as a 4, then saw that I did that previously. So time to rate. LOVELY nose. Absolutely tropical fruit, but not the dank dirty socks taste that I often get with that nose. Just a medium sweet deliciousness.

Flaska från Alees by mail. En lite trött APA där fruktigheten tonats ned lite. Bra kropp, karamell, smörkakor utan att bli sött, mango, citrus och lite passionsfrukt. Bra balans men lite anonym. Ok.

Bottle. Amber/gold pour with a white head. Pineapple, pear, mango- shed loads of exotic/sweet fruit in there. Peach, pineapple and orange rind flavour. Fruit blast on the old palate. Good stuff.

Bardzo pijalne, ładnie pachnące, bezbłędne piwo. Myślę, że klasyczna APA. Weird Beard.

Weird Beard was on my list of beers to try in the UK but I had no chance to try it their. I brought home their decadent stout and it burst out of the can in my bag on the way back so I picked this up for 600 yen at CRAFT BEER BASE. Coincidentally it is also a NZ hopped beer but this 5.3% beer is a Pale Ale rather than Kirin’s 5.5% "IPA". Pouring a nice copper gold with a solid head of foam it has a fantastic juicy tropical fruits aroma. Light bodied with a slick mouthfeel, it’s quite bitter giving some butteriness and astringency with a ton of hops. I get the feeling this may have suffered heat damage in transit. The hopping is subdued but this 7 month old beer (Batch 155) gives citrus, mango and grapefruit notes. Alright but I should have tried something of theirs fresh in the UK but I only saw bombers and a few canned beers. Prices were in the 2-3£ range each(4£ possibly?) so Japan’s prices aren’t that bad but hoppy beers need to be fresher.
