(bottle) Clear, deep golden to amber colour with a thick and slowly lacing foamy white head. Sweet cara-malty aroma with a shy citrus-fruity and slightly flowery hoppy blend. Sweet and slightly bitter flavour, cara-malty and subtle fruity taste; moderately dry, malt-accented, slightly nutty finish, again combined with subtle fruity notes. Likeable (31.10.08).

At Spuyten Duyvil from a pine tar pitch laced cask. Light, tart aroma, very fruity, a touch of wood. Body lacks carb but is very easy drinking. A touch of tart in the flavor, and almost a little smoke. The tartness in this is not normal, and perhaps was from an infection from the cask. It worked somewhat but was very weird.

Gravity pour from a pitch-lined wooden keg. Very pale golden-amber beer with a thin white head. Aroma is lightly tart and even a little bit cidery. As it starts to warm, I get a little bit of light pininess that I assume is from the pitch. There is also a fairly lactic sourness as well. Lean malts with a bit of woody character that gets fairly pronounced. I didn’t like it at first but it does grow on me a bit. It’s very strange though. I’d like to try it on a regular cask or keg.

Bottle in Quinns. Aroma is malty, bready and small roasty notes, but mainly sweet. Taste is similar, very malty, id have guessed it a marzen over a dunkel though.

A Mes rate: Bottle at Quinns.
Hazy gold with a thin white head. A very wheaty but otherwise standard weiss. Sweet finish. Really I can’t be bothered.
