COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Liquid does not break fasting - fasting was the rule at the times of the Benedictine monks in Weissenohe. This we now owe the mirror carp than fast food and the strong Doppelbock as liquid food in this barren time. We have for you, in this tradition, our strong brewed Bonator as dark Doppelbock, physical and spiritual strengthening in the "Staaden" time. Double Bock, a dark, spicy and strong as is the tradition requires. Suitable for: goulash, Schäuferle, Krustenbraten, hearty snacks and powerful game dishes

TaxiDriver (1472) - Stadland, GERMANY - JUL 2, 2011
A very malty smell, roasted malt, some chocolate. The small white fizzy head has a short duration, the body is dark red. The first taste is nice malty, then the chocolate shines through. The finish is light bitter. The body is medium strong, the texture is at first creamy, thenquite dry with a normal carbonation.

50cl bottle from Germany, pours a deep red with a fast disappearing head, caramel and roast peach on the nose, toffee, honey and dark red fruit on the palate, and a sweetish peppery aftertaste with hop aromas coming through at the end.

Strong aroma of bread with the appearance being lava red. Not an over the top doppelbock, very good in every way.

500 ml bottle.
Pours a clear copper colour with a thick white head. Aroma sweet malts and loads of caramel. Flavour of licorice, sweet malts, raisins and pleasant sweet fruits. Medium bodied with a thick mouthfeel and a smooth, warming, fruity finish. A very pleasant Doppelbock.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 1pt. 0.9oz swing top bottle into a mug. Appearance: The body has a deep brownish coppery color with dark reddish amber highlights. On top is a small collar of tan foam. The head slowly settles and clings to the glass as I drink. This makes for lots of cool lacing on the glass. Smell: It has a big deep aroma with tons of malt character. It has deep roasted grain with notes of burnt caramel, toasted bread and toasted nuts. The alcohol is also noticeable and adds a touch of fusel character which is a little distracting. Taste/Palate: The flavor is big and full bodied like the aroma and like the aroma it starts with a big bready and roasted grain like base. Inside of it are notes of burnt caramel, toasted bread, and some light toasted nuts. I also pick up some dusty/earthy and mildly fruity yeast as well as some old dried/leafy hop spice. This adds some light bitterness to the background. Mingling through all of this is a very noticeable fusel booziness that has a harsh edge to it. Notes: There is a lot of depth and complexity but it has its ruff edges too.

Serving: 500 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a hazy, very deep amber color with a slight, off white head. The nose is very malty with some bread and a good bit of dried fruit notes. The flavor is fainter that I was expecting and the brew comes across as a little thin and flabby. There is some bread, caramel, perhaps a bit of banana, and a little fruitiness. Medium bodied with lower carbonation leading to a short to medium, thin finish. It’s okay, just not great.

16.9 oz swing top from Capone’s. Pours turbid ruddy deep brown with clingy eggshell head. This one looks great. Nose iscorn flakes, earthy brown sugar, peaty, malt. Tastes malty, with corn flakey, brown sugary, toffee, and mild red vinous fruit notes. Nice complexity, a smooth finish, well balanced, and downright delicious.
