Liquid does not break the Fast - was a rule of fasting at the times of the Benedictine monks in Weissenohe. For this, now we owe the Mirror Carp as Fasting food and the strong Doppelbock for liquid intake during this barren time. In this tradition, we have brewed for you our strong Bonator the dark Doppelbock, physically and spiritually strengthening during the "staaden" time. A dark Doppelbock, spicy and strong as the tradition requires. Suitable for: goulash, pork shoulder, roasted meat, hearty snacks and strong game dishes

Cask. Pours deep amber with a beige head. Sweet toffee malts, hints of diacetyl, lightly toasted malts, and herbal hops. Blech. I mean, still drinkable, but really not that good.

Gravity Keg at Churchkey event. Poured a dark amber color. Aroma was sweet malts, with some lightly roasted qualities. Flavor had a touch of fruits, plenty of malty sweet character. Alcohol is pretty well masked for 8.2%.

Bottle, 8.2%. The aroma is slightly fruity with a touch of brown sugar. Clear dark brown colour. Small tan head. The flavour is sweet and peppery in OK balance. A little fruity in the finish, which I do not think suits it. Not as flavourful as I expected from a Doppelbock.

50 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 29.04.2010
Aroma is somewhat malty with roasted notes and some solvent‐like alcohol. Flavour is rather malty and somewhat sweet with some berry notes, raisins, chocolate and hints of solvent‐like alcohol. Good, I like the malty sweetness here.

500 ml. swing top bottle. Pours a thick, tiny bubbled, rapidly collapsing, light beige head, with some lacing, over a slightly hazy, dark amber (SRM 15) body.....nose is raisin, plum, molasses, hints of cocoa....taste is dark raisin, plum, brown sugar, hints of toffee/caramel, finishing with a light cocoa bitterness......mouth feel light, alcohol hidden, very slight astringency carbonation adds a light tingle to the finish. This beer is rich, complex, and nourishing in both aromas and flavors. It is remarkably light in mouth feel which should be a bit heavier, this could be corrected by a slight increase in final boil temperature, also the malt backbone could be a bit more complex. BJCP 8/3/13/4/7
