Liquid does not break fasting - fasting was the rule at the times of the Benedictine monks in Weissenohe. This we now owe the mirror carp than fast food and the strong Doppelbock as liquid food in this barren time. We have for you, in this tradition, our strong brewed Bonator as dark Doppelbock, physical and spiritual strengthening in the "Staaden" time. Double Bock, a dark, spicy and strong as is the tradition requires. Suitable for: goulash, Schäuferle, Krustenbraten, hearty snacks and powerful game dishes

Bottle. Fairly clear coppery red pour with a creamy beige head that quickly shrinks to surface cover. Sweet malty nose has notes of toffee, dates, chocolate, nuts and raisins. Flavour is pretty similar, a little more roasty and the fruitiness takes a backseat to the nutty malt overtones. Alcohol is well hidden but the sweetness becomes a bit overbearing. Medium to light bodied with a slightly watery mouthfeel, lively carbonation and a lingering roasty, sweet finish. Rather simplistic overall and somewhat unbalanced in favour of malty sweetness. Drinkable but not the best example of this style.

Bottle. Clear dark reddish amber with a good coat of beige head. Aroma of singed toffee, bread, prunes, raisins. Low carbonation, slightly syrupy. Fairly sweet with toffee and dried fruit, vanilla. Bitterness creeps in at the end to clean up nicely and there’s modest spice at the end too. No heat at all from the alcohol. Not a lot of personality, but powerful and tidy.

Sampled at an ESBLS tasting. I brought this. Mid to dark brown and almost clear. A small beige head. I am not sure what is being smelled. Toffee? Fruit and butterscotch. Wheat and cocoa flavors are nice but not big. Alcohol flavor. A nice beer, actually.

Bottle, bought @ Bierzwerg.de.
Pours clear red amber with a small, frothy, off-white head. Fizzes a bit. Aroma has caramel, light sugary, mild toasted, softly vinious, light grassy. Medium to high carbonation, lovely light and pretty creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is delicious and balanced, fat caramel, toasted, vinious, light warming. Soft red berries, a hint of chocolate. Fine vinious and softly bitter finish. Very good doppelbock.
