COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Liquid does not break the Fast - was a rule of fasting at the times of the Benedictine monks in Weissenohe. For this, now we owe the Mirror Carp as Fasting food and the strong Doppelbock for liquid intake during this barren time. In this tradition, we have brewed for you our strong Bonator the dark Doppelbock, physically and spiritually strengthening during the "staaden" time. A dark Doppelbock, spicy and strong as the tradition requires. Suitable for: goulash, pork shoulder, roasted meat, hearty snacks and strong game dishes

Bottle. Fairly clear coppery red pour with a creamy beige head that quickly shrinks to surface cover. Sweet malty nose has notes of toffee, dates, chocolate, nuts and raisins. Flavour is pretty similar, a little more roasty and the fruitiness takes a backseat to the nutty malt overtones. Alcohol is well hidden but the sweetness becomes a bit overbearing. Medium to light bodied with a slightly watery mouthfeel, lively carbonation and a lingering roasty, sweet finish. Rather simplistic overall and somewhat unbalanced in favour of malty sweetness. Drinkable but not the best example of this style.

Bottle sampled at Björn, thanks. Brown head. Clear brown color. Light roasted malt aroma and some sweet caramell both in aroma and the taste. Balanced bitterness.

Clear copper with medium beige head. Aroma is clove, dried figs, phenols, not alcoholic, caramel. Taste is caramel sweetness, some carbonation induced sourness. Finish contains alcohol, full body. Rather too much fine bubbles but still not aggressively carbonated. Good one.

Clear amber color with off-white head. Aroma has some sweet, toasted malt and a hint of alcohol. Taste starts with toasted malt, slightly spicy and boozy. Body is on the lighter side and has medium carbonation. I don’t really like this one. It’s quite boozy and also has a stale grain / rotten fruit flavor.

Bottle at skovenhaven took it. Pours hazy brown white head. Aromacaramel, light dusty malts, light banana, butterscotch. Taste is rather with sweet, with butterstoch, light grain and dried fruits. Decent.

Flip-top bottle into a pint glass. Pours a clear mahogany, with a large beige head that persists. Nose is typical doppelbock-malt and caramel. taste follows. Classic doppelbock, and a very good one.

Bottle. Tawny and clear with a small head. Lovely slightly sweet flavour. So easy to drink considering its strength. An excellent example of this style that shows that in this age of wonderful craft beers Germany can still produce a good one like this. Highly recommended.

From a 500ml bottle on 18/4/2016. Pours a dark amber with a small to medium head. The nose is rye bread, dark fruit and brown sugar. Take a sip and it’s super sweet - caramel, dates, raisins, plums, brown sugar and treacle, along with more rye bread and some light spice. There’s bugger all bitterness to be found - it could almost pass as sauce for fruit cake. The texture is thick and surupy, the carbonation quite soft. A very nice, very malty dessert like brew.

Bottle, The Offie, Leicester. Brown with a thin head. Toffee with brown sugar and oily butter. Raisins with plummy notes. Peppery alcohol with hints of vegetable. Bready yeast with leafy, papery notes. Some Euro lager notes but decent nonetheless.
