3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
New Beer Distributors, NY 50cl ($4.50): Pours a copper color with a whitish head. Aroma is caramel, malt, and a modicum of hops. Taste is quite sweet, and it leaves somewhat of an aftertaste that is quite sugary. Body is medium. Not bad, but easily forgettable.

Aroma is somewhat roasted with coffee notes, some chocolate and malt. Flavour is malty with some chocolate, berries, caramel and hints of metal. Decent.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
50cl Maruhn - Surprisingly tasty, dry, potent Dunkel with some subtle aromas to back up the balanced full roasty Vollbier taste - verges into Belgian dark ale territory, but with more bitterness and contained ABV. Nice label. One of my gateway beers to the rich Franconian beer world.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Deep gold to light amber in color (not sure why it is called a Dunkel). Head faded to nothing almost immediately. Light malty aroma with some DMS characteristics. Malty with some flavors associated with under attenuation. Seems much more in line with a Maibock than any kind of Dunkel. Not bad, but I would not go out of my way to find it again.

A very interesting beer. Pours a beautiful clear amber red. Smells of black cherries and caramel. Taste is similar, cherries, caramel and vanilla. Had on New Years.

Bonifatius Dunkel. Yes, this is a Franconian Dunkel, I suppose. And it is indeed a bit more exciting than the incredible sea of boredom where the world of Dunkles sits upon. Sweet, dry, nutty, really creamy. The hoppy touch, a little bitterness, not too much, breaks the Dunkel monotony, making a tremendous difference.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from South Lyndale Liquor. A light brown color and low carbonation. The aroma has malt and lager yeast but there is also some light spice I can’t identify, along with the lightest nutmeg. Rich palate and lots of sweet malt. A very good dunkel, and unusual with the light spice. Another reminder that it is hard to get a quality dunkel outside of central Europe.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle @ home titled "Weißenoher Monk’s Christkindl" picked up at Argonaut Denver. Pours a fairly clear, dark rust orange appearance with a cream colored head. Kind of spicy, tangerine, citrus fruity aroma with some straw, floral, and roasty notes. Lightly metallic/minearlic, herbal/earthy hoppy, caramel, somewhat nutty, fairly chewy flavor. Reminds me of my travels to Bavaria. Pretty tasty.
