Clear dark amber with a nice head and lace. Taste is full caramel malt with light spices and light bittering. Easy to drink and nice full-body, especially in light of the 5.1%abv. Recommended.

The pour is a translucent, dark crimson color with a moderately full, rocky, pillowy, off-white head which is somewhat lasting and leaves soapy lace. The nose is simple but pleasant with faint cocoa, slight roast, and lots of dark breads. The flavor is similar with husky grains, very yeasty breads, slightly barnyardy, and some light roast. The palate is more than moderate, lively, crisp, and slightly creamy. The finish is still a bit barnyardy, grainy, and doughy. Almost like being at the farm with the barnyard notes and intense grains, but still the palate really keeps the beer together. Not sure why they call it "Monk’s Christmas" when it shares no similarities to a Belgian beer?

Draft. Hazy brown color, thick tan head. Aroma of black pepper and caramel. Taste is bittersweet caramel. Not bad.

Had under the alias "Monk’s Christmas" at Holy Grale, Louisville. Real nice malt profile with caramel, raisins, pineapple and light chocolate, but without the overbearing chocolate/caramel of many Dunkels. Appearance was reddish cola brown with bone head. Flavor matched the nose, but with the wonderful toasty, nutty finish that I enjoy in so many German beers. Palate was soft and chewy. Fantastic beer.

Under the Christmas label, this is very nice. Auburn color, sweet malty notes in the nose. Not very complex as befits a dunked.

Pour is a dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma is sweet caramel malt. Flavor is decently roasted caramel malt with a little earthyness left on the tounge after the swallow. A decent no frills dunkel.

Bottle at home. Pours a deep chestnut brown colour with a thick, light tan head. Aroma of bready yeast, biscuity malt, Weetabix, caramel and grassy hops. Similar biscuity flavour with a little grass again and light woody and earthy notes. Moderate carbonation, light CO2 prickle and an oily mouth-feel. Nice and malty with a chocolate linger.

(500 ml labelled "Monk’s Christmas" from Bootleggers) Pours mostly clear dark tea brown with a large, lasting tan head. Aroma of brown sugar, vanilla and chocolate with some initial sourishness. Mouthfeel smooth, fairly full but filtered-feeling, borderline creamy. Flavor of chocolate, brown sugar and vanilla, a bit restrained but good. Turns more chocolatey as it warms. Pretty pleasant dunkel bier.

Sweet and raisen like. Some prunes and a reddish hue. OK but noy really my thing.
