Bottle@Home, thanks DerDoppelbock. Malty aroma with toffee notes and a hint of smoke. Brown colour, beige head, good lace. Light sweet, quite malty, subtle smoke, toffee, butterscotch, light bitterness. Medium to full body for a Dunkel. Very good example of the style.

I almost didn’t buy this because I thought it was just old bottles of Monks Fest. I’m glad I recognized the subtle differences in the label (i.e. the name of the beer) The beer pours with a medium fluffy head that leaves a good lace, the color is a brilliant orange-ish red. The aroma has some hay and some mild chocolate with some graininess and light whiffs of noble hops. The flavor is husky and has plenty of herbal hops and some good chocolate notes. There is also a spicy & sweet candy thing going on in the background that is pretty good as well. The palate is rich but very smooth (real smooth?) This is another very nice beer from this brewery, I hope these seasonals from weissenoher keep popping up around Des Moines.

Bottle: The aroma is loaded with heavy roasted grains along with some faint brown sugar and nuts. It pours a bright transparent copper with a one finger beige head that leaves behind a solid sheet of lacing...an impressive looking beer. The flavor starts with some nice light chocolate and caramel. Moderate roasted grains in the middle, but nowhere near as strong as the aroma would you to believe they would be. The finish has some light chocolate and roasted nuts. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass very dark, almost black. Nice head. Starts mild, fine malty, not too roasty. Hints of caramel. Well balanced finish, quite drinkable. Really good dunkles.

Bottle at home. Pours a deep chestnut brown colour with a thick, light tan head. Aroma of bready yeast, biscuity malt, Weetabix, caramel and grassy hops. Similar biscuity flavour with a little grass again and light woody and earthy notes. Moderate carbonation, light CO2 prickle and an oily mouth-feel. Nice and malty with a chocolate linger.

500ml bottle (Stockman, Tallinn)
Rich red, small tight head. Rich grainy aroma, quite bready, Anna detects some cocoa. Soft carbonation, smooth palate. Really rich malty grainy taste, a touch nutty, some smokiness too. Bitterness stays for a gentle nutty finish. Goes down very easily, but packed full of flavour. Great dunkles.
