pivnizub (8790) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - FEB 4, 2009
Bottle: Clear, chestnut-amber coloured, big persistent fluffy beige head; moderate nutty nose with shy hops underneath; light to moderate sweet-bitter flavour, almost medium bodied, soft, creamy MF; some hops detectable in the mild malty bitter finish and nuts in the aftertaste. A mild, but well balanced and pleasant Dunkel..............

Bottle. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Malty chocolate notes, some light lactose notes, caramel and toffee. Some thin butter scotch tones, light wood and a hint of smoke. A nice ale.

Chocolatey nose with a hint of orange. Color of dietrite cola with a nice off-white head. Tastes sweet and bubbly. There are hops here, but not what I expected from the nose - flavor is more hay-like.

Bottled (BZ, BB 02/2011)
Dark nut brown color, good off-white head. Aroma has dark caramel malts and cocoa power, light grassy hoppyness. Medium-bodied. Chocolaty and caramelly flavor, light toasted notes in the finish. Quite low bitterness. Almost a dessert beer.

inbirraveritas (1230) - Budapest, HUNGARY - OCT 16, 2010
Bottle from "Sörspecialista", Bp. Clear mahogany/dark amber coloured brew with a nice creamy and laceing off-white head on its top, which remain thinly. Smell of caramell and grassy hops. Sharp start escorted by a malty aroma of caramell, toast, grass and yeast. Sweet taste of caramell balanced by a spicy and toasted/nutty bitter flavour in the finish, which drains the palate and remain in a caramell-toasty aftertaste. Medium bodied, good drinkable stuff, worth for a try…

Bottle as Monk’s Christmas from the Arden BevMo in Sacramento, CA. Pours ruddy dark brown with a fine off-white head. Smells rather sweet and roasty. Med body. Flavor is rather light, and not that sweet. The description says Landbier, and I think that’s suggestive. There’s something herby holding back the sweet. Drinks very pleasantly.

porterhouse (1581) - Boothbay, Maine, USA - DEC 17, 2011
(500 ml labelled "Monk’s Christmas" from Bootleggers) Pours mostly clear dark tea brown with a large, lasting tan head. Aroma of brown sugar, vanilla and chocolate with some initial sourishness. Mouthfeel smooth, fairly full but filtered-feeling, borderline creamy. Flavor of chocolate, brown sugar and vanilla, a bit restrained but good. Turns more chocolatey as it warms. Pretty pleasant dunkel bier.
