Pours a copper color, with little to no head. Aroma of sweet malts, slight dark fruits, and bread. Taste is slightly sweet caramel malt up front, toast, and dark fruits...somewhat dry, and warm to the tummy. Finish lingers on the tongue for some time. Overall, not bad, but would not seek out again....due to the cost.

ASPETTO: marrone abbastanza scuro, limpido. Schiuma marroncino chiarissimo, fine, abbondante e non molto persistente. AROMA: maltato e frutta secca predominanti.

Strong off-white head of fine and dense bubbles. Sweet malty aroma with a bit of spice and vegetal aromas. Color is a very nice dark crimson brown. Lots of bready malts, some roasted brains, brown sugar and some cloying sweetness. Little bit sickly sweet in the stomach. Finishes thick and malty with a bit of lingering spices and squash. An ok brew.

Flip-top bottle labeled Monk’s Christmas. Pours chestnut brown with a 2-finger light tan head, with nice retention. Aromas are nutty malt, cocoa, caramel, and a hint of red fruit. Flavor is rich, smoky wood, cocoa, and some slightly oaky toffee notes. Medium carbonation and nearly creamy. Tasty beer; enjoyed with smoked venison sausage...Mmmm...

Draught at TND: Aroma of malt, hops, and dust. Poured copper/amber in color with a medium-sized, creamy, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet and slightly bitter. Tastes of malt, leaves, and marzen-like flavors. Medium body. Lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt, leaf, finish is lightly sweet and slightly bitter.

The pour is a translucent, dark crimson color with a moderately full, rocky, pillowy, off-white head which is somewhat lasting and leaves soapy lace. The nose is simple but pleasant with faint cocoa, slight roast, and lots of dark breads. The flavor is similar with husky grains, very yeasty breads, slightly barnyardy, and some light roast. The palate is more than moderate, lively, crisp, and slightly creamy. The finish is still a bit barnyardy, grainy, and doughy. Almost like being at the farm with the barnyard notes and intense grains, but still the palate really keeps the beer together. Not sure why they call it "Monk’s Christmas" when it shares no similarities to a Belgian beer?
