2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Swing-top. Malty caramel nose with light grassy and citrus, a touch of toffeenut. Sickly orange body, clear with a noisy, leggy, and lacing rocky beige head. Taste is very sweet, grassy with lightly gritty caramel, a nice dollop of smacking toffee, toast, honey, and light herbal bitterness. Faint German spice. Nutty with a touch of smoke. Light body is smooth and soft. Despite the many and natural flavors here, the overall feel is a little cheap and thin.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at Spuyten. Pours looks nice- mostly clear deep wetallicy copper with a nice lasting head. Aroma is toasty, moderately sweet, slightly burnt toast, bready and caramel with a slight herbal hop touch. Flavor starts out a bit floral with the hops and as it warms the doughy toasty malts come through with a light caramel sweetness. Pretty good.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
In the 0.5L flipcap bottle from Beertopia. Deep amber color with a medium-thick white head that settles to a thin covering. Mild nutty and malty aroma. Sweetness to the taste up front, but it yields to a dessicating and unpleasant hop finish. This has an odd off-taste that is not usual to the style.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Smokey malty to nose. Color of beer is similar to the tan of the label
Too much malt for my taste, not enough hops.
Purchased because I wanted the swing-top for my own brewing purposes.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Flip top bottle and served in my flip top stein: Deep golden hue with a small frothy head and okay lacing. The aroma has notes of grain, veggies, and a hint of pear esters, weak and one-note. The taste pretty much follows suit, pale bready and caramel sweet malts with a hint of fruity twang and honey around the edge, rather mundane and boring which is often the case with the genre to begin with. The palate is soft and chalky dry, not refreshing at all. Avoid this beer only because of the cost and find yourself a better lager from people like Great Lakes, New Glarus and the such.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Sampled at tronraner’s Xmas Eve^3 tasting courtesy of lithy. Clear amber pour with thin white head. Sweet and fruity malt aroma. The malty sweet flavor is balanced with a small amount hop bitterness. Kind of grainy.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: DEC 26, 2009 From a 500 ml flip top bottle purchased on sale for $3.49 at BevMo this poured a copper colored hue with off-white head and good lacing. Nose of caramel malts and floral hops. Smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is malty and floral hops as well. Easy drinking beer.
Update 12/25/09: This was from a bottle called Monk’s Fest. Good as ever.
