3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle (flip top like on the pic) courtesy of ogivlado (thanks!)
Poured a lovely copper-brown body with a big slightly off white head. Light soft nose, a bit grainy and chocolatey. Light grainy taste, again weak notes of chocolate, maybe caramel too. This is a grainy MF (and I don’t mean mouthfeel here), very nice in its own way but sorely missing hops in my opinion.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Malziger Antrunk, erst frisch, dann etwas dunkler werdend.

Bottle. Copper body, small head. Rich aroma of caramel malt and autumnal fields. Pleasant thick mouthfeel, taste is malty and caramelly without being overly sweet. Nice.

Serving: 500 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a cloudy reddish brown with a small, off-white head. The head is quick to fade into nothing. The nose is full of bread, slight florals, and a bit of dark brown sugar. There is a lot of dark bread notes in this brew with a lasting dark honey sweetness. There is a touch of yeast on the back end as well. Light to medium body with some prickly carbonation leading to a lingering sweet, bready finish. A bit on the sweet side, but still enjoyable.

Franconian Monk Lager. Comes in a 1pt.9 ounce flip-top with a monk on it.
Large hiss when pepped open. Pours a murky brownish/amber with a 2 finger off white head. I can’t say this beer looks too amazing. Could this bee last year’s Ofest?
Smell is a bit like a Dunkel. Mostly roasty caramel malt with a hint of white raisin. Slight sourness.
Taste is a bit stale, It may be old, may not be. Has a juicy malt flavor, some metallic notes, water, some sweetness, and a tint of bitter hops. I wish it had more pop.
I want to see what this is like when i know it is for sure fresh, too bad it doesn’t have a date on it.

Another awesome Weißenoher beer. Fresh; best before date June 29, 2011. Just came in to Piwoteka.
Beautiful orange-gold color, really shines. Lasting small head, well carbonated. Aroma of nicely spiced hops, pepper and cinnamon. Sweet sugar in the smell too, baking bread. Very, very nice and fresh aroma. Flavor has a little sweet/sour swing - slightly citric, big fresh sourdough bread, indeterminate spice, slight sweetness. Overall quite good, but the aroma is the killer thing about this one.

12 ounce bottle from the Beer of the Month Club labeled "Monk’s Fest" reviewed from my tasting notes. Clear amber color with rich thick head.
Huge malty sweet bready aroma with some waxy piney notes that remind me of citrusy furniture polish -- but in a good way. Bready malty raisins and spicey bread pudding flavors. Medium bodied, rich syrupy mouthfeel, dry finish. Normally, I find a lot of Octoberfest type beers very similar in nature, but this very nice malty beer that stands out from others in the same style. Definitely worth pursuing again.

Tasted from a 500 mL bottle purchased in Denver, Colorado. Pours an orange-brown appearance that’s pretty hazy. Quite sweet malty aroma, a lot like mash. Amber malty body with caramel. Kind of watery, light body.
