pkbites (257), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Dec 9, 2007 Updated: Dec 10, 2007 This is the house beer at Weissgerbers Gasthaus, a wonderful, highly rated German restaurant located in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
I do not know if this beer is available commercially outside of the establishment.
Has a beautiful dark golden/copper appearance. A nice, ever-so-slightly off white head that doesn’t last as long as you’d like. Has a light, nutty aoma. VERY, VERY smooth drinking. Not real malty. Could use some more hops and bitterness. After-taste is okay, but could use some more malt, hops, and bitterness (did I say that already?) Has just a touch of vanilla and a hint of banana. I could do without the banana.
Some what similar to the old Augsburger
(the OLD Augsburger, not the version Point f*cked up!). This is not your average German Style beer. If I’ve made a mistake calling it an Amber Ale please have that corrected. IT IS an incredibly smooth beer, one of the smoothest I’ve had in a long, long time!
JPDIPSO (4266), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Mar 6, 2008 Amber to bronze in color with a moderate but lasting off-white head. Aromas of lightly toasted malt, hints of nuts, mild herbs and touch of floral hops. They would not divulge, or perhaps know, the brewer, but I assumed Capital. If pkbites is right and this is Minhas, perhaps there is some hope for this brewery. LIght toasted malt flavors with some hints of noble hops. I would consider this a vienna in style. I do have to agree that I do remember the "old" Augsburger, while not great, still a better brew then what is produced now. A decent litre of brew.
