Floral malt aroma with lightly sweet molasses and a hint of yeast. Clear, dark brown amber with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head. Milder floral sweetness flavour with some toffee and caramel notes. Medium body is slightly grainy. Nicer than it’s brother the Iron Duke in terms of graininess. | 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Nov 3, 2007 can: Over-rated beer. Try Charles Well’s for a truer IPA. This is a real cross between a dark lager and the IPA, and reminds me of Waterloo Dark in a bad way. NO head to speak of, little lacing and a very predictable Wellington taste. Just grab a better IPA or heavier ale or ESB with real flavour, b/c this is nothing memorable. Next. TheJester (705), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada

Aroma of chocolate & caramel, a touch of English hops, and a slight astringency. Flavour is good; some sweetness, some roasted malt and hop bitterness, some nuttiness, and a bittersweet finish. Medium body. Nicely carbonated. Very drinkable. matt7215 (959), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 10, 2007 Pours a brick brown with a thin offwhite head. Aroma is weak, but what is there is pleasing with notes of sweet malt caramel. Flavour is interesting, but not strong enough, with marichino cherries up front, giving way to a bit of caramel sweetness, and ending with a slightly sour, slightly dry hop finish. A tad watery, lots of carbonation. All and all not a bad beer, just not distinct enough, needs to be bolder. Gets bonus points for being brewed in my home town.
