| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 18, 2007 Updated: May 10, 2008Nice beige head on top of a really nice brownish red colour, it looks exactly like maple syrup to be honest. Smells kind of sweet actually, lots of malts. Initially sweet but has a nice bitter balance to it. Tastes of roasted malts, chocolate, and like I said, a little bitter from some good hops. I really liked this one, very enjoyable and drinkable! EDIT: It’s still good, but honestly, it seems to be going slightly downhill these days. That’s a real shame. I lowered my previous score. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 11, 2007 I first had this at the Bow & Arrow on Cask in late 90s and it blew me away. The bottle and regular draft version are decent, but not comparable to the cask version. Pours a dark brown reddish colour with light off-white head. Has nice roasted maltiness, with nutty and bready notes. Finish is clean and very easy drinking. StompBrockmore (300), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 8, 2007 Draught at The Rhino, Toronto - came dark brown, some ruby highlights, medium off-white head. Aroma of dark malt; some bready, earthy, and nutty notes. Flavour is similar, starting off with nutty malt which then makes way for a mildly earthy, hoppy finish. Very smooth, easily sessionable, satisfying pint. Good body, well-rounded. Great sessioner for the Fall or colder weather. Good anytime. caledonian (367), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 24, 2007 Dark brown with a fair head. Earthy malt aroma. Hint of chocolate and caramel in the flavor amongst the expected dark ale flavors. Fairly smooth, some hop bitterness in the finish. JohnBarleycorn (390), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 10, 2007 Deep auburn/chestnut appearance. Nice, chocolate/cocoa powder aroma and equal dose of rye bread. Flavour packs a little too much burnt wood, affecting the balance of the brew, but a touch of fruitiness manages to shine through along with some hops on the finish. Medium-bodied palate. Would match well with barbecued beef burgers.
