Gooner (136), Chatham, Ontario, Canada Nov 30, 2001 Second to Wellington County’s Iron Duke Strong Ale. This could be considered Iron Duke ’Light’. Minimal head, mildly bitter and walnutty. As said before, a tad of cherry. Slight aftertaste which doesn’t last long. Very smooth and nice on the throat after a ’few’. Wonderful ale. Recommended highly! Slacks (481), Bolton, Ontario, Canada Aug 18, 2006 Updated: Nov 20, 2006Cask @ The Woolwich Arms, Guelph, ON: Had a chance to try this on a proper hand pump - I’ll keep the old review as it’s most proper to what the average person can expect. Oddly, on cask it seemed to lose a lot of the subtle niceties I enjoyed on draught previously. It’s interesting to have it in this form, but it became a very muted version of the draught version. Try it to say you did.<P>
Original 060818 Draught @ Cheek’s, Bolton, ON: An exceptionally well done pale ale, this one caught me by surprise. Came with a thick off-white head, dark brown body with a red hue near the top and burnt orange around the bottom of the glass. Aroma of roasted malts and chocolate, hints of hops and caramel. Flavour is a clean hit of hops on the tongue to start, makes way to a rich cover of chocolate on the tongue, trailing to roasted nuts after the swallow. I’m highly impressed with this one. fredthecat (179), Canada Apr 6, 2008 a nice dark malty smell, dark tinted with red and a smallish head, some dark, burned fruity tastes (even more fruity on draught). its great to get on draught because its usually only in the medium price range at bars and is cheaper than other "premium" beers at the beerstore Quevillon (1518), Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, Canada Aug 4, 2006 Bu au Black Tomato (Ottawa) (20 oz). Ambrée foncé, pas pire collet. Bon arome d’houblon peu amère. Bon goût d’houblon un peu malté. Très plaisant. sleepdirt (169), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Jan 28, 2002 More nutty and chocolaty than I remember it last. Very hearty and satisfying ale. Different flavour (chocolate) than I expect from dark british-style ales. I enjoyed it..... beerforgood (21), Thornhill, Ontario, Canada Dec 28, 2004 Updated: Apr 6, 2005A pleasant beer pouring with an off-white head that retained well and laced well. Mothfeel was complex with an excellent combination of carmel , grain, and hops. It finished with a lingering taste of malt that was quite pleasant. mustang3 (254), Whitby, Canada Jul 29, 2004 On cask at C’est What. This was pretty average from the bottle, but fantastic on cask. The nose is very floral and that matches the lively golden colour. The flavour is soft citrus hops with floral notes, but not aggressive. pintbypint (1002), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Sep 15, 2004 330ml brown bottle. Ruby brown brew with a short lived tan head. Flowery hops, caramel and dark malt in the aroma. Bold roasty flavour, great hopping.
