on cask at the castle on king. this was completely underwhelming. served in a 6 oz sample. black with almost no head. tiny amount of carbonation. aromas of weak coffee and roasted malts. flavours are similar with an astringent sweetness to the finish. im not impressed. ill have to try this again either on tap or bottled.

Jul 10, 2008 The black body of this brew is topped by a medium thick, brown head with a good amount of lacing left behind. The aroma is sweet, malty and full of caramel notes with a slight roastiness. The aroma reminds me more of a dopplebock than an imperial stout. The malt flavor is slightly sweet and roasty with notes of caramel. Full bodied and slightly dry.

Jun 24, 2008 Cask version on tap at C’est What? A black beer. Medium-thick dark beige head. Coffee and licorice aroma. This has a nice burn. It’s thinner in body than I’d prefer. Milk chocolate finish. Leaves something to be desired.

May 18, 2008 pours black as one might expect. Had it on cask so was minimal head and made for a very smooth drink. Coffee flavour with slight bitter finish. Not quite as complex as other imperial stouts. In terms of canadian imperial stouts it is up there but john by is still the champ for me thusfar.

Apr 23, 2008 This was a rich dark and complex beer with a heavy coffee flavor and some bitterness in the finish,it had a lot of roasty malts and poured with almost no head.CHEERS!
