Bottle from the Brewery. Chestnut brown with fizzy light brown head. Aroma is of malt, caramel and strong coffee with a very similar taste. Palate is fizzy and light to medium. It has a short, slightly bitter finish and, while enjoyable, is overall nothing too special.

Dark chestnut in colour. limited head in trappist glass. Aroma is nutty malt, taste is similar. One of my favourite picks available for take-home in Ontario.

Another brew from Matt7215! Pours a dark brown color, small head. Aroma is kind of weak but maybe some sweet fruits. Taste is dry. Malty and a hint of nuttiness (just like the commercial description says). Easy to drink. This is my first English Strong Ale that I know of....Its not half bad. Thanks again matt for all the beers.

Bottle courtesy of matt7215. Pours ruby red with a thin white head. Smells of fruit, sweet malt. Tastes of light fruit, earthy, bitter. Nice!

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass. The aroma reminded me of that of a Dubbel. It was malty and full of some nuts and fruits. It was smooth and flavorable and bettered as it got closer to room temperature. very impressed with this ale.

Pours a chestnut/cola like color. Aroma is invitingly roasted, with hints of dried dark fruits, coffee, a slight smoke note perhaps. Flavor is really nice, with a slight sweetness balancing out the roasted notes. Very solid.

bottle from matt7125: pours a dark cola colour wiht a small off white head. aroma is a very roasty , some sugary dark fruits, very good. flavour is very smooth and lightfully full. the flavours seem to blend very well and this beer drinks awesome. the flavour sare lite roast chocolate, some sweet smooth caramel, finishes very well aslo a litle bitterness just fantastic.

341mL bottle, no date from goryshkewych--thanks George! Clear deep reddish brown with a one finger light brown creamy head, fair retention. Walnuts, hazelnuts, and coffee grounds are what I picked up on first. Minerals and fruitcake cake next. Flavor adds a bit of wet paper oxidation and the slightest alcohol presence. The nuts and fruit are the most upfront. A lightly roasty semi-dry finish with bitterness peaking around a 2. Light creamy carbonation with a body just slightly thinner than I’d have liked. I’d have no problem drinking a few of these--a nice surprise.

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2009 a really nice and particular aroma, smells slightly candyish and fruity. tastes malty and sweet with a little bit of a dark stout taste at the back of the mouth, great low amount of carbonation and like any great high percent beer you cant even tell its anything better than normal. slightly less "filling" than the wellington dark allowing you to get alot more drunk without feeling bloated. also lower than "premium" priced, and with the 6.5% abv this is one of the best choices to get for cheap per alcohol unit and taste.

UPDATED: JUL 27, 2008 Yet another over-rated beer from this very average brewery. This is up there with Tankhouse for an allegedly flavourable ale, but both are thin, lacking malts, depths of flavours and seem almost too fizzy for an english ale. Give me a Fullers or John Bull any day or even a Belgian ale for big alcohol content with way more flavour. Rogue’s Dead Guy Ale has more alcohol & way more flavour than this. This does have caramel and is sweet, but needs more malts to round it out.
