Sampled from 341ml brown bottle. Pours ruby brown with slight off white head which was short lasting. Fruity malt in the aroma. Dark chocolate giving way to a dry, yet short bitter finish. Notes of alcohol throughout. Medium mouthfeel.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark with a brown hue. Short frothy beige head with good retention. Molasses and malt dominate the aroma with a hint of toasty bread. Flavour is sweet at the forefront, less sweet, edging towards bitter near the end and has a comforting, warm finish. Rich, velvety mouthfeel. Goodness, yes.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Wellington’s best cask ale, Iron Duke has the complexity and strength to structure it convictions. Dark brown and ruby in colour this has some caramel and deep prune sweetness but also some hop which combines to make a very satisfying beer. Warming, full bodied and yes, a bit nutty too. If this was at a GBBF I’m sure the CAMRA wallies would go nuts for it.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Golden brown with pillowy layer of beige head. Aroma of heavy malts, bourbon and something sour. Immediate strong alcohol taste with a metallic tinge ironed out by sweet caramel. Finishes slim and a tad watery.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Originally rated December 2004. This is the last brew to review from Wellington’s fine brewery. Poured a deep brown-orange colour with red highlights and a nice tanned creamy head. Beautiful lacing was left behind. The aroma seemed very sour with a mix of chocolat. The taste was very well balanced between the sweet chocolat-toffee and the bitterness. Lots of fruits were found in the mouth. Pretty darn good !

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
341ml bottle pours a dark amber color with a 2 finger light beige head that has decent retention and leaves a thin spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma is caramel malts and earthy hops. Taste is caramel malt sweetness with hints of chocolate and a moderate hoppy bitter finish. Decently balanced flavors with a medium body and moderate carbonation. A fairly decent beer for the style.
