COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled, Pasteurised.
This dark golden coloured ale hugs the palate with great intensity. Its malty aroma is complemented by the gentle nose of Banana. Its flavour unfolds with a sensual sparkle and a smart crispness, which balances its aroma perfectly. Tropically fruity; its ripe banana flavour, emphasised by a hint of bitterness, comes from the addition of real fair trade bananas and finishes with an emphatic, steely dryness.

UPDATED: MAY 1, 2009 Pours a clear copper with minimal white head. Aroma is bananas, bananas, bananas! Crisp mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Flavor is strong bananas and a dry and slightly bitter aftertaste. I don’t know, going from the strong sweet banana to a bitter end doesn’t really do it for me. I was hoping for something with more spice or better balanced. Got worse as it warmed up. DNF.

Smells and tastes exactly as it should, just like a banana. Too dry and highly carbonated overall. The initial banana taste is ruined by an overly dry finish. Excellent banana taste but the finish ruins this beer for me.

Timfoolery picked up this beer. Smelled like...bananas. Very thin and weak on flavor and on the palate. I was expecting something great and it fell way below expectation.

You bastards! How dare you make my all but perfect beer. Who do you think you are over there at Wells & Youngs? Are you the bastard child of a franziskaner monk and a Ninkasi herself? Pours a B-E-A-utiful sparkling red/amber with just enough head and aroma of pilzner and perfectly ripe bananas. Then it drinks exactly like it smells. NO small task in beer making. OUT FN STANDING!

Truly hateful. Surprisingly hateful, given that there were many favorable reviews from RB-guys whose opinions I trust and value. Nose of chemicals and artificial banana goop. Gorgeous clear dark orange body with a small white head ... if I got to look but did not have to drink this would be ok. Taste of spoiled bananas, bubble gum, and more chemical goop. Surprisingly thin, dry, tanic and astringent finish. Actually pretty awful.

UPDATED: APR 6, 2009 500 ml bottle. Cardiff, Wales. Dark amber with medium off-white head. Dried banana aroma with syrup and black pepper. Flavour is banana and hints of black pepper. Alcohol also present and some bitterness. Fair trade bananas, that’s good. Interesting idea but no need for me to buy again.

TAsted LIKE BANANA bread. sweet, banana smell and taste. Worth trying. I probably wouldn’t get this again, but it was interesting to taste.

Pours a clear light amber with a frothy but somewhat fizzy beige head. Nice pure banana oil aroma, similar to banana flavored candy. I also get some brown sugar and pumpkin pie spices. Flavor has some banana, but it’s more pithy than sweet and there’s not a lot of it in the first place. An earthy hoppiness and bready malts make up the bulk of the flavor, presumably because the base beer is an ESB. Mouthfeel is a little thin for a beer named after a rich and chewy confection. Carbonation is a little too high. Not bad.

Pours an deep copper with quick diminishing bubbly head. Aroma is strong banana’s and some spiciness. Flavor of artificial banana, spices of nutmeg, cinnamon, clove and ends with a slight bitterness. Palate reminds me a lot of pumpkin ales...it has the same buttery/oily texture. Overall, I was disappointed...I love banana’s, but this tasted so artificial.
