Bottle: What a bizarre beer! I thought this would be terrible, and while itís not great it certainly isnít bad.
Clear brown amber with a fast dissapearing yellowish head. In the nose... Wow!! Tonnes of fake banana in here and some gentle clove notes with a heady alcohol hit. Really, it smells like a bag of those lolly bananas in a little white paper bag that I used to buy as a child. Underneath this, and very difficult to pin down, were some woody malts and classic pasteurised death. In the mouth the bananas continue their triumphant reign. They somehow seem more real here, although thereís no getting away from the lolly aspect. Thereís also some pleasant juicy malt notes, however, all is killed by pasteurisation. Interesting.

568ml bottle from Asda. Chestnut colour wth thin off white head. Banana and yeast aroma. Bit bubblegummy. This doesnít really develop in the mouth. Too bananery and tastes of kids sweets. Some hop on end. Bit empty and boiled sweet in mouth. Not as good as cask and not something I would buy again.

From a bottle. This was certainly interesting. The dark copper body was topped with a white colored head. The aroma was strong banana with some caramel. The banana smell continued through drinking the beer. The taste was banana peels with some iced tea. There was also a hint of cinnamon. The banana got more and more subtle as I drank it. This was not a pleasure.

Iím drinking this beer as I write this lol. The aroma is extremely strong, yet sweet, the scent of banana hits you immediately as you open the bottle. Itís appearance is a golden brown, with a small head when poured into a glass. In my opinion it is too fizzy to drink from the bottle, itís much easier to drink wen left in the fridge open for an hour or so, but thats my opinion. The flavour is strong, and after a while can become sickly, but still enjoyable for a once in a while drink -- I cant see myself drinking bottle after bottle of this. Either way, I highly rec. this drink to anyone who wishes to try new ales.

Wells Banana Bread Beer
English pint bottle
Recent bottling, sliced into 11/06
Medium pour in an English pint.
Poured a mystifying clear yellowish brown with an average fizzy mostly diminishing off white head.
Smelt strongly of candied bananas as I was pouring. On closer inspection, smells of strong sweet banana candy, spices and a bready maltiness. Genius!
Taste was upfront moderate sweet ripe bananas and spices, followed by a strong bitter malt breadiness and spices that slowly die down on an average length finish. Mouthfeel was light, watery, fizzy and awkward moderate astringency towards the end.
Overall, the label states it plainly, this beer is all about banana bread. The smell is wonderful, but the taste feels tamed and short with some crisp bitter bite at the end (crisp and bitter does not belong with banana and bread), as well as a fairly light body. Just a fun novelty beer overall.

The name of this beer is completely apt. Big banana influence in the nose. I can taste the bananas, the bread the nuts. The banana influence is a bit overwhelming, but there is a nice dry finish.

Golden colour with a stable head, however it is not very dense. The aroma is with only a little banana, but also pretty sourish, like a pilsener. The body is quite average, and the flavor is with a lot of banana which seems a little artificial, like marshmellows with banana flavor. It finishes a little dry with a good amount of hops, and the aftertaste is again marked by the hops, but with a little banana, too. This beer could easily have been sweeter, for example it could have been really exciting with some chocolate-flavor in it. There is an interesting idea behind this beer, but it should have evolved into something much more exciting!

UPDATED: DEC 7, 2006 Bottle. One of my old favourites...Dark brown med off white head. Banana, malt and a bit of hops in aroma...and of course: banana. Taste is just what youíd expect: banana, malt and a nice, fresh hoppiness though it also has elements of metal. Re-rated this: BANANA! Thatís about all I got to second time I took notes. Rated it lower before (5-3-5-3-10), but thereís just something magical about drinking this one. Nostalgia probably. Must have had it on a night out on a smoky bar at the first rating or something.
