This dark golden coloured ale hugs the palate with great intensity. Its malty aroma is complemented by the gentle nose of Banana. Its flavour unfolds with a sensual sparkle and a smart crispness, which balances its aroma perfectly. Tropically fruity; its ripe banana flavour, emphasised by a hint of bitterness, comes from the addition of real fair trade bananas and finishes with an emphatic, steely dryness.

The artificial banana aroma, exactly like a cheap kids’ sweet, is the worst thing about this. Why can’t flavour scientists produce something more convincing? The taste, in which the banana isn’t so overpowering, is quite pleasant and malty, though it could be a bit more bitter.

UPDATED: FEB 28, 2006 Bottle: Translucent burnt orange, very coppery, large white frothy head, spotty lacing, a few streams of carbonation.   Artificial peanut aroma, much like those orange circus peanuts.   Also has a Banana Popsicle aroma.   Somewhat more realistic banana flavor emerges on the tongue, albeit still remains like a popsicle.   Malty, semi-sweet, finishing like the aroma, orange circus peanuts with only a dash of banana.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Meh... not terribley interesting, but not bad either.   Thanks mattbob for sharing!

Bottle (09/07/05). Initial banana aroma with spicy yeast aromas and a general malty fruitiness. The palate becomes a bit thin a more rounded full body would complement the sweetish flavours better.

Amber with a small white head. Banana cake aroma. Sweet malts and banana, with a slightly bitter finish. This one really suprised me, a little one dimensional but perfectly enjoyable ale.

Light amber, not much head. Sweet aroma from artificial banana. Artificial flavor as well, strange and not very pleasant at all.

Different. Definitely has a banana bread aroma and flavor. If you like banana bread as I do, it’s not a bad brew.

(Bottle) Smells just like a loaf of banana nut bread and malt. A bit unsettling, but also intriguing. I got a bit disappointed by the flavor itself, where the bananas are hard to locate. It tastes like any old bitter, until the bananas hit again in the palate.

a mes rate: appearance is dark tan. clearly banana on the nose with a touch of liquorice and caramel. head behaves like a typical english ale and the overall impression is exactly what you would expect from what i have said so far. typical flavourless english ale with a banana hit that makes it quite drinkable but nothing special at all. finsh is all yellow fruit and iron filings...

(Bottled) Clear amber color with a smallish, tight head. Sweetish aroma of natural bananas. Somewhat acidic, malty banana and toffee flavor. Medium-bodied, carbonated palate. An interesting brew for banana lovers. Not much to offer for others, though.

Clear copper coloured, small but lasting head. The moderate banana aroma actually works out quite well in this one, not nearly as unsettling as in some other examples (Mongozo comes to mind). The flavour is more like a typical British bitter, not very complex and the fruit isn’t very apparent. Still, the pint is easily finished (but that might be because i haven’t had a beer in over a week).
