COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled, Pasteurised.
This dark golden coloured ale hugs the palate with great intensity. Its malty aroma is complemented by the gentle nose of Banana. Its flavour unfolds with a sensual sparkle and a smart crispness, which balances its aroma perfectly. Tropically fruity; its ripe banana flavour, emphasised by a hint of bitterness, comes from the addition of real fair trade bananas and finishes with an emphatic, steely dryness.

This beer gives you just what it says--banana bread. The aroma is all banana, and nothing else. You can’t get a hint of hops, malt or alcohol out of that baby if you sniff all day long. The taste is so interesting--full of bananas and a definitely bread type taste to it as well. It has a very lingering aftertaste that doesn’t sit well in my opinion. I love all things banana, but I will stay away from this brew in the future."

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, blankboy, tupalev & jerc - courtesy of jerc. Gimmicky or not, I’ve wanted to try this one, so thanks to Jeremy for the chance. Bright amber colour with a small head. Lots of banana on the nose, with a hint of skunk (f’ing clear bottle!). Tastes so much like banana bread, it’s uncanny. It’s a little weird, and could use some more body, but ultimately I ended up enjoying it much more than I expected I would.

Pours a three finger cream head that fades slowly leaving a trace of lace. Chrystal clear amber color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Strong banana nose. Starts as a malty/hop mix but then the banana flavor kicks in, a strange soapy banana aftertaste. $4.09 for a 19.25oz bottle from John’s Market Place Tigard, Or.

How do you follow up a Stone Old Guardian and a Dark Lord? With banana bread of course! Bottle shared with Jerc, GregClow, Hogtown Harry, and Blankboy, Jer’s bottle. Wonderful aroma- strong sweet banana bread - and a hint of skunk from the clear bottle. Orange, small white head. Tastes like....banana bread! Just a little too thin unfortunately - watery makes it seem pretty forgettable. Interesting stuff that delivers what it promises, just too bad there wasn’t more beer to go with it.

Bottle (500ml - clear). Shared with blankboy, GregClow, jerc and tupalev - jerc’s bottle. Poured clear amber with a small off-white diminishing head. Aroma of banana (okay, sweet enough to be banana bread) - a little nutty, sweetly malty but a hint of skunk I’m afraid - damned clear bottles! Tastes the same - banana bread, some mild actual hop character on offer, less skunk than the nose - still very sweet. Average body, leaves a sweet cloying aftertaste, nicely carbonated, almost sharp; not bad - banana bread, dessert in a (clear!) bottle.

UPDATED: JUN 27, 2006 Brown body with a small white head. Just a hint of skunk brands the aroma with the stain of the brewer’s poor choice of a clear bottle. Mild banana and sweet bready malt are quite pleasant. Tastes like banana bread, much more so than I expected. Bit of malt, very minute skunk. Touch light on the body, light sweet aftertaste. Clear amber-brown pint bottle. Aroma is candy and banana, flavour little more banana-like than some of the fruitier Weissbeers. The finishing bitterness imparted by the hops (Challenger, Golding) counters this nicely, but there is a stale woodiness in there also bordering on the offensive. Aftertaste is breadily malty. Maybe one to re-sample on draught.

Clear dark amber color with a medium white head and minimal lacing. The aroma is of course all bananas. Medium-bodied, and the banana character luckily is not as dominant in the flavor as it is in the aroma. However it is still a lot of banana, along with a bit of malt and nuts. The finish is fruity and nutty. I was nervous trying this but it actually turned out better than expected. I still wouldn’t make it a regular purchase though.

Strong banana popsicle aroma. Good embossed bottle, tea-colored and clear, oatmeal head. Dry. Banana popsicles, medium bittering. Rather one-dimensional and bland. Novelty, but no knockout here. Aftertaste is very banana bread-esque.

(Bottled) Colour is dark amber, with a foamy, but quickly disappearing, head, leaving little laces. Nose is rather malty, but dominated by the odd aroma of ripe bananas, however a bit candyish, like marshmallows. Fruity, but slightly artificial. Taste starts malty, with the same slightly artificial banana aroma, however not as dominant as in the nose. Starts slightly sweet, but turns drier as the malt and hops come to the fore towards the finish. Strange notes of Dr Pepper as well. Medium bodied. Somewhat bitter-sweet, rather chemical finish with the bananas and hops battling it out (battling is probably too strong an expression). Not at all unpleasant, but I’m not really convinced.
