COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled, Pasteurised.
This dark golden coloured ale hugs the palate with great intensity. Its malty aroma is complemented by the gentle nose of Banana. Its flavour unfolds with a sensual sparkle and a smart crispness, which balances its aroma perfectly. Tropically fruity; its ripe banana flavour, emphasised by a hint of bitterness, comes from the addition of real fair trade bananas and finishes with an emphatic, steely dryness.

Love the label. Smells strongly of banana "Now and Later" candy chews. Tastes more like fizzy, bland ale. Truly unremarable. Fake banana smell.

I suppose you either love this or hate it. I guess I just like my beer to taste of beer, not bananas. And it isn't just a hint of banana - it is very intrusive. And very sweet too. And finally, I don't really like bananas anyway. Extra mark to the brewer for bravado though. Bottled, August 2003

One pint brown bottle 5.2% Vol. Poured a clear ruby with quickly diminishing off-white fizzy head. Banana vanilla malty aroma. Bitter banana unbalanced flavour, slightly sour. Needs a little sweet spice. Watery mouthfeel with short bitter finish.

Not as bad as I would have thought. Gentle brown color, smells like hurrrr bananas. I chugged this one quickly so I wouldn’t have to taste much lol.

Nice banana smell, and a smooth and sweet banana flavour, too. There are some hops in there, but the banana overpowers them totally. Too much - this is a beer you have once, unless you’re looking for a beer to have with banana split or deep fried bananas!

Looks, well, as predicted coming from a clear bottle. Clear copper brown with a minimal head that disappeared pretty soon after pouring. Aroma of banana Paddle Pops with a little touch of toffee. Restrained sweetness on tasting, with, as per the deScription, a hint of bitterness. Fairly thin and missing some body, which really seems to be a result of the pasteurisation - the cask version sounds much more appealing. Thumbs up for the fair trade bananas, but get rid of the clear bottle, the pasteurisation and the filtration and we might have a beer with some guts to back up the aroma!!

Well, it’s about time. I mean, beers that taste like beer are all very well but what about those of us who want beers that taste like baked goods? It’s been a long wait. Was it worth it? Well I won’t be cancelling the daily delivery from Krispy Kreme. But yeah, this is alright if you’re the sort of person who ever sipped an English bitter and thought, "Hey! This could use a little banana milk shake syrup". There are a couple of obvious benefits: you can’t tell if the stupid clear bottle has caused the beer to be light-struck; and you can hardly taste the tell-tale ’burnt sugar’ effect of pasteurisation. Hell, the brewer coulda taken a piss in this and you wouldn’t pick it over the bananas. In the glass, Wells Banana Bread was a mealy tun colour with a hint of jaundice. The short head collapsed like a burst souffle. It exuded rich fumes of banana milk shake syrup - very sweet and sticky. Could be the yeast strain , I suppose, but I doubt that aroma is all due to natural ingredients. Bit of artificial help there, fellas? Certainly doesn’t have the natural smell of a good hefe. Besides bananas, there are hints of roses, husky grains and perhaps some butterscotch diacetyl. It’s sweet and slick over the tongue, and softly carbonated in the English style. Strong banana notes compete for attention with Goldings and spicy Challenger hops. The finish is dry and salty, with a mild bitterness. I quite like this, but then I kinda like those Pick’n’Mix banana-shaped candies. It’s a beer for people who don’t much like how beers taste and would rather drink something else. Now who’s gonna make me an apple pie ’n’ cream ale? Chocolate chip muffin porter? (Pint bottle from Camperdown Cellars. Best before 8/02/07)

(19.25oz bottle, BB 30/11/07): Pours a golden brown color, fizzy, with a big white lasting foamy head. Very strong ripe banana aroma, a little hops, but mostly bananas. Banana malty taste, banana aftertaste. Bottled water taste. Not much else. Interesting, but this will be my last.
