Another one I’ve had a few times before but never got around to rating. Last time was in Wycombe, but I didn’t take notes. (3.1) This time it’s in Clapham. Cask. Hazy amber orange, still, small white head, some sparse lacing. Body is medium, low carbonation. Taste has watery squash, touch of pithy citrus skin, soft British noble hop character. Overall, it’s balanced but underflavoured. (3.1) again.

Alengrin (2464) - BELGIUM - SEP 14, 2014
Famed eastern English bitter with a somewhat hazy copper colour, thin but dense creamy head and fruity aroma (lots of apple) with a sulphuric accent, some peat, caramel and dough. Supple palate with nice fruitiness and hoppy bitter finish, very well balanced between fruitiness and hoppiness, as any good bitter should be. Deservedly a classic.

Cask at The Anglers Arms, Morpeth. Amber brown colour, thin white foam head and malty earthy aroma. Taste is malt, slight biscuit, nutty and light hop bitterness. Light to medium body, medium carbonation, earthy bitter finish. OK

On tap at the Duke of Devonshire, Eastbourne. Classic ale with no surprise. Light brown in its colour with just a bit of hops in the nose. Some nuts combined with a bit of malt and nust in the aftertaste. Nice and classic. Nothing special.

Draught at the Duke of Devonshire in Eastbourne. Pours out in a deep brown colour with flat body and low head. Aroma of light hops and barley with some nut hints. Taste of hops, light malt, barley, nuts and straw. Mild finish. Easy drinkable, yet nothing special.

Cask at the haymarket. Pours clear amber, thick white head. Aromas are light vinegar, toffee. Taste has some yeasty funk. Maybe not well kept, but I can honestly say I preferred this in the bottle.

Tap@BA Bellmansgatan. Mörkt bärnstensfärgad vätska. Doft av kola, knäck. Neutral beska med smak av blommor. Äcklig eftersmak. Sur-rap

UPDATED: SEP 4, 2014 Surprisingly easy to drink, yet so bitterly like a true Brit. Lovely finish when the beer goes down the palate.
