ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Sep 30, 2007 Appearance: Pours a clear, reddish-amber body with a finely bubbled, ivory-colored head.
Smell: Perfumy aroma of caramel, citrus, bittering herbs, and yeast.
Taste: Subtle malt flavor of caramel with a pinch of chocolate. Vaguely fruity. Lightly sweet. Bitter herbaceousness. Finishes dry.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Moderate carbonation.
Drinkability: Fair enough. A decent, if not standard English bitter. BelgianBeerGal (1275), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Sep 30, 2007 50cl bottle. Slightly hazy amber color with a white head. Aroma was slightly earthy/dusty. Slightly above average but weak bitterness. nice short finish though. PilsnerPeter (2585), Flushing, New York, USA Sep 30, 2007 Tap at The Diamond: Pours a deep amber with a brown hue and a thin tan head. The aroma lacks hop, making it mainly chocolaty and lightly nutty. Mild carbonation on the palate. The flavor has a hint of nuttiness & some light toasty crystal malt. Not enough bitterness, especially for the style. Simple, session-able. EithCubes (2140), Indiana, USA Sep 29, 2007 Bottle. Toast malt balanced with deep-lain red fruit and bready fruitcake. Lesser notes of plum and yeast. Deep mahogany/chestnut body with a beautiful, soapy, lacing rocky tanned head. Dry, lightly bitter, lightly fruity taste, with the fruit lingering a little more than the other notes in the brief aftertaste. Pale Malt and the Goldings are the key players here. Slightly dusty medium body. Carbonation is a tad artificial. Faintly earthy. Pretty standard bitter. BeerBiker (1384), Odense, Denmark Sep 24, 2007 [Sampled in 2005.] Copper beer with lazy head and lazy flavor, just ok. Notes of weak fruits, bitterness, many ingredients, A thirstquencher with a dry finish! SSSteve (2047), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Sep 21, 2007 clear burgundy/brown with no head. i really don’t get any aroma...maybe some caramel. flavor consists of caramel and tea....or just loads of crystal malt. palate is watery. i didn’t really care for this much. djd07 (721), Houston, Texas, USA Sep 18, 2007 Bottle as shown. Pours a dark amber color with a small off white head. The aroma is black licorice and caramel. Decent lacing on thsi one. The taste is a bit watery with light caramel. Not too much going on with this one, would not consider this a ESB. andymccabe501 (5), England does not count Sep 11, 2007 looks good, smells good , tastes good.
