Poured redder than I expected, a rather opaque, dark reddish-caramel-brown with a puffy light brown head. Some lacing and quick dissipation. Mild malt aroma with a medium mouth feel. It has a crisp, clean persona. I did not notice a bitter aftertaste. Fullers ESB is better but this one is worth another try at a later time. Metalhead (570), Lake Zurich, Illinois, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jul 13, 2007 Premium pint. Mild watery malt aroma. Mild malt taste along with a dryish woodiness. It was watery and thin with a too dry finish. I don’t drink beer to experience cotton mouth.
Fullers ESB is a better choice. Otje (668), Leiden, Netherlands

Bronzecolour, thin head. Sweet soapy aroma, reminds me of some chewing gum. Pure bitter hoppy flavor, hints of burned malt, short tasting. HogcliffeLenny (162), Christchurch, Dorset, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 5, 2007 Updated: Jul 10, 2007Draught ale, July 3rd. Copper colour and firm white head. Aroma was not too noticeable but definately malty. The flavours hint at raisins and a slight sweetness. Sits around the medium body mark.
Bottle 568ml, July 5th. The bottle pours a finer coppery colour, although the head was not as firm as the draft (may be my pouring). The aroma is more noticeable - a sweet malt. Again. the flavours hint at raisins and a slight sweetness but this time there was a little plum coming through in the after taste. Left me with a lingering hoppy bitterness, which was pleasant enough.
Well, it could be due to cellar storage or the way the landlord kept his beer lines, but the bottle definately rates higher than the draft. My recorded rating is based on the bottle. lovemyipas (420), sw burbs, Illinois, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 27, 2007 in a can. pours a clear red with a one finger bubbly tan head. aroma is caramel roasted malt with some hops. has a light to medium body with traces of lacing and descent carbonation. flavor is roasted caramel malt with some hops, yeast, and grain. has some earthy notes as well. it is descent i guess. it is a little thin on the palate, but has a little bite from the hops and a dry hop aftertaste. as it warms there is a little apple cider aroma and flavor and is definitely better than the coniston bluebird i just had. Smell was fairly pleasant. Mouthfeel was medium. A hop dominant beer with a pleasant bitterness on the tongue with dashes of spice everywhere. A bit malty with a dry finish. A nice beer on a hot day. My second and only ESB that I like.
