DruncanVeasey (2695), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England Jun 1, 2007 Clear ruby, creamy off-white head. Slightly soapy, sweetly malty snout with a sniff of barrel. Demerara and liquorice. Gentle, creamy roastiness in the finish. Smooth and slightly woody. Very wishy-washy for the ABV, and a completely different beast to the cask version. Drinks like a mediocre, over-chilled smooth Mild. Inoffensive but very dull indeed. johndoughty (2150), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England May 27, 2007 A darkish bitter, slightly fruity bit overall very bland. This is all my tasting notes say which sums this beer up. tomthompson89 (1460), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 26, 2007 nice english, big white head color is dark amber, lotsa malts on the nose, some hops, a little sweetness too velvety texture, well balanced a good session ale mtoast (290), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 26, 2007 Typical mass sub par English beer aroma, toffee with a bit of hop earthiness. Crystal clear clarity, you know us yanks just hate bottle conditioned beer so I really don’t blamed them for filtering the crap out of it, thin ring of foam that leaves no lacing. Taste is a wonderful mix of cardboard and more cardboard with a fairly dry finish, pretty much the highlight of the beer is that the finish destroys the initial flavor. An uninspired beer, the score keeps getting worse as my glass is emptied. churchill00 (154), Austin, Texas, USA May 25, 2007 Caught my attention by the label (sucker for any take on the English flag--not the Union Jack). Pretty clear, medium head. Dry throughout & fizzy. Pretty dang bitter. Dang. jbrus (4835), Delft, Netherlands May 24, 2007 Bottled. Aromas of grass and raisin with a hint of caramel. Light brown color, beige fine head, good lace. Very grassy, raisin, caramel, stale bitterness. A bit thin. Starts very nice but with a very short finish. altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands May 23, 2007 Bottle at Beiaard, A’dam. Red coloured bitter. Some head. Well prickly. Malty, with standard bitter flavours. Fine enough. Rictus (126), Camdenton, Missouri, USA May 21, 2007 Dark amber. Small white head. Little smell. Smooth bittersweet taste. love the hops in this beer. Not much else detectable though. Feels like most ales. Not bad
