Dark copper with lasting creamy head. Light malty nose. Very quaffable beverage. Light fruity taste. Some hops and caramel flavours.

Bottle: Dark amber coloured, big, firm beige head; malty and distinctive hoppy flavour; quite dry malty and hoppy taste; longer lasting finish: aromatic hops, malts and dry fruit; well rounded, creamy mouthfeel; good balance between aromatic hops and dried fruit..................

Had one of these at the Winking Lizard. Nose of wheat and berries with an initial hint of figs, and plums as brew warms; could be bolder. The brew pours a clear dark copper. The massive creamy tan head is tight and fully lasting. The lace hangs on the side of the pint glass in sheets. The well balanced flavor is huge. Strong starting tones of pecans and coffee. The warm alcoholic middle transcends into dried fruit and a rich bittersweet finish. The medium creamy body is soft.

568ml bottle. Lovely deep ruby colour and persistent though thin head. Subdued, musky, Christmas spice aroma like mulled wine that takes a good swirl to release. Firm body with a strong peppery finish. Shame about the overt English marketing.

A Mes rate: Dusky tobacco tinged nose. Red-brown body with a reasonable cream head leaving fair lace. Bready and just slightly fruity. Maybe a little sour too. Slightly hoppy and generally mellow all round. Nothing much to write home about but not bad either.

Very pale in color with a skinny head, lightly carbonated, nice malty flavor and easy drinking

Rich, malty, full bodied (for the style). Dark caramel brown with a think head, well formed. Note much happening on the nose, even a touch dull. Much more expressive on the palate; candied malts marrying nicely with a bitter finish with some refreshing herbal notes. Good beer and certainly one of the better from the genre that I’ve had recently. A: 4 N: 3 F: 7 P: 3 Overall: 14

500ml bottle from Tesco. Chestnut brown colour. Mainly malty and predominantly dry, with some bitterness. Underlying fruity and nutty notes. Smooth mouthfeel. Not too bad for a pasteurised bottled English bitter (although it does have that typical metallic tang) but nothing out of the ordinary.
