Note much happening on the nose, even a touch dull. Much more expressive on the palate; candied malts marrying nicely with a bitter finish with some refreshing herbal notes. Good beer and certainly one of the better from the genre that I’ve had recently.

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Nov 27, 2005 500ml bottle from Tesco. Chestnut brown colour. Mainly malty and predominantly dry, with some bitterness. Underlying fruity and nutty notes. Smooth mouthfeel. Not too bad for a pasteurised bottled English bitter (although it does have that typical metallic tang) but nothing out of the ordinary.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 22, 2005 (Bottle 50 cl) Beautiful reddish golden - almost coppery - with a handsome, dense head. Very goodlooking. Not overly full-bodied but quite refined and complex with a good mix of malt and some surprising almost cherryish notes. Marked hoppy finish. 200101 leaparsons (4700), Leicester, Leicestershire, England
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 8, 2005 Bottle. Nice fresh aroma for starters. Its a shame that the rest of the beer is a bit of a wimp. More bitterness, please! CampbellWilson (533), Scotland
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 23, 2005 Bottle from Asda. Red amber with beige head. Aroma of toasty malt, peachy hop, earth, butterscotch. Firm mouthfeel let down by the carbonation. Good bitter finish. 11026 (1799), Alabama, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 29, 2005 Tap at Horsebrass. Deep copper colored and clear. Scant whitish head forms and fades rather quickly with slight trails of lacing left behind. Malty aroma with earthy hops. Medium bodied. Decent balance between caramel sweetness and earthy hopping. Fair bitter, probably very representitive of the English style. blankboy (3198), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 27, 2005 Bottle. Pours a lovely dark copper with a large frothy off-white head. Fair lacing and lots of bubbles. Very mild aroma of malt, hops, fruit and toffee. Flavour starts with a fruity spicy malt flavour and then gives way to a mild hop bitterness. Very smooth but a touch too mild. This is a great Bitter and one of my favourite easy-to-get beers, I buy it often. beanmedic (324), Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
