Can. Dark amber coloring. Quickly receding head. Smells like turf. Strong taste might be sprouted barley. Dad called it horse urine. But more like sod...tastes british. Super malty. 5.2 alc

Rated based on notes taken 22 Feb 2012 -- I believe the description of this beer is a little over-zealous. Tasted like a dry stout.

Pours a clear ruby color with a medium off white head. Aroma has light fruity malts...almost a hint of cherry. Flavor follows suit and adds a layer of caramel and earthiness. Mouthfeel is medium and silky with a slightly dry earthy/fruity finish.

Couleur ambrée sombre, mousse qui disparait. Nez caramel, sucre candy notes fruits noirs. Gout bien malté et caramel, notes fruitées. Bien balancée et ronde en bouche. Une premium bitter comme j’aime!

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2014 500ml bottle served in a Pint glass. A: Pours a dark amber copper clear color forming a big bubbled and very creamy beige head. Excellent retention and lots of lacings left S: Sweet toffee, caramel malts and strong notes of flowery British style hops. In overall, it’s a very "British" Ale T: Slightly sweet upfront. Mainly composed by toffee, caramel malts and bready yeasts. Strong notes of citrus hoppy bitterness in the end M: Light to medium body. Medium carbonation. A little bit molasses. Toffee and mild citrus hoppy bittersweet aftertaste O: Good drinkability. Extremely British. Great session beer [ BA Review @ 10/19/2012 ]

Transfer from BA review on 3-23-14- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a copper-mahogany color with a one finger of a light tan colored head. The head has a moderate level of retention, fading to leave a moderate level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is a bit on the lighter side but consists mainly of a biscuit and slightly bready aroma. There are some other aromas of darker fruits, caramel, and toffee with some hints of yeast mixed within. Other aromas of an earthy and herbal nature mix with the rest, producing a rather light and smooth smell overall. Taste – The taste begins quite dry and gets only more so as the taste advances. A rather cracker and biscuit malt flavor mixed with some lighter caramel flavors are present upfront. The caramel fades rather fast with more roasted malt flavors taking their place. Some quite light hop flavors of an earthy nature bring a bitterness to the brew, complementing well the loss of the sweet and the increase in the roast. Some light chocolate flavors develop later in the taste and mix with the bitter and drier flavors of the brew to create a crisp and lightly roasty flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is light and thin with a carbonation level that is rather low. The thinner body is fantastic for the lower abv. and for allowing for an easy drinking feel, with the carbonation, all the while, keeping it a bit thicker in nature and accentuating the roasted and lighter bitter hopped flavors rather nicely. Overall – A rather nice drier and crisper esb that has a good flavor profile and drinkability. A nice more session style brew.
