| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 8, 2008 Rich aroma of brown malt and darkish fruit. Mahogany color with a coarse beige/tan head. Near medium in body with fizzy carbonation. Flavor is mild roasted malt, perhaps a bit nutty, with arguably floral bitter. There is a bit of heat. The finish is decently dry, and there is hop in the finish. A mild drink which is exceptionally tasty, though fresh from the cask is better. rauchbier (3004), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England

Excellent deep red brown colour with good longlasting rocky head. Caramel and spicy hops in the mouth and a hop bitterness towards the end. OKBeer (1159), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 8, 2003 This one looks inviting; clear reddish brown, short head that settles into a nice ring and leaves milky lace all the way down the glass. Malts are medium thick and accompanied by bright fruit flavors. Hops intermingle and provide a mellow lingering finish. This just recently showed up here, I'll need to get some more while it's still fresh. Sigmund (2306), Hafrsfjord, Norway

Too bitter for my taste. Rerate: It's NOT too bitter for my taste! (What was I thinking the first time I had it? I must have been out of my mind!) The nutty bitterness is just right, great refreshment on a hot day. Not outstanding, but a GOOD ale, for sure.
