Can: Poured a medium copper color ale with a nice big thick white foamy head with great retention and really good lacing. Aroma of semi-sweet malt with a nice English touch of English hops. Taste is nice mix between slightly sweet biscuit English malt with a nice subtle bitterness at the end with a nice touch of floral hops. I thought this was very well done and I am not sure why such low ratings for that one.

Bottle. High and cfeamy good looking long lasting off-white head. Clear red brown body. Sweet but powerful barley malt aroma with a bit of toffee. Hoppy caramel flavor without much carbonation and a long hops bitterness aftertaste. Well done for such a relatively low alcoholic beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle transaprent (white), 1 pint (568 ml)
Appearance: Pours deep, essential, dark brown with rubby hue, much more essential in colour than ’Morland’s Old Speckled Hen’, body is perfectly clear and seems medium bodied, carbonation of the body is low, head is beige, cappuccino like in colour, frothy in texture, initially small, decreasing to minaimal but still lasting.
Aroma: Herbal - earthy hops, mild woody - nutty touch, toastyness, brown sugar, rather no caramel hints, some kind of smokyness but clean and slightly milky on the other hand, giving some notes of minerality and whipped cream. Definitely towards hoppy profile in terms of English Hops, spices, resin, raisin.
Flavour: Malted barley and gentle sweetness felt initially at front, earthy - spicy - herbal - hoppy retronasal aroma, body feel medium, bready with notes of brown sugar in nose, bitter on palate but not as strongly pronounced in its bitterness as ’John Bull Premium Ale/Bitter Ale. Finish duration is long.
Palate: Body is medium, texture is creamy, carbonation on palate is medium, finish feel is clean, slightly alcoholic, mineral, slightly spicy.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Originally rated January 2007. I’ve always liked the Charles Wells the LCBO has available. Never a crazy hand-brewed product, but a fine product none-the-less. This one pours a clean light copper colour with a nice creamy off-white head. Great retention and thick lace. Carbonation is light, but consistent. Beautiful nose of strawberries at first, which changes to spices afterward with rusty malt and decent hop. A very nice blend of aromas. Creamy mouthfeel. Taste is smooth, with an Irish ale feel. Has a bit of fruit at first, going into some mild caramel and then bitterness takes over. Again, nothing too strong here, but just a good macro that is above average.
