This is fast becoming my favourite German brewer. Like Weihenstephan, they seem incapable of making a mediocre beer. On an evening when the mercury brushed 40C, this hit the spot. All the Weltenburger beers I’ve sampled to date have looked great and this is no exception. It’s a lucid pale gold with a fine, tall lasting head. And it has one of those aromas that says ’quality’. It’s not "big" but there are no false notes. It’s soft and malty with fresh bread, lychee, canned pineapple and faint pine. Malt is again to the fore in the mouth. Very bready, soft and rounded, with some piney notes in a gentle finish. Lovely stuff. (500ml bottle, IBS Perth, bb 27/3/05)

Bottle in Sarasota, FL. Pours a straw color with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting. Average bready malt aroma. Medium body with fizzy carbonation. Moderate sweet , light bitter flavor with an average finish.

Medium pale gold crystal clear with large shortish lasting fine bubbled bright white head and reasonable lace. Surprisingly sweet grainy malty and bubblegum aroma on opening of bottle. The initial degree of maltiness does not quite agree with the colour. As it warms the malt becomes less bright and mroe biscuity with a hint of woody hops and a touch of smoked? something grows. Palate is medium, clean, tongue tip tingling carbonation fading to slightly cloying. Flavours are quite complex. Initially a slightly stale bitter hops and biscuit malt together with hints of pine needles, grapefruit rind and there’s that smoked? again. Finish is soft smooth aged woody bitter.

After having the Urtyp last night I found this one more to my liking. Clear pale golden body with a compact white head. The aroma is not as prominent as the urtyp, and the hops show up first then backed up by light malts. On the taste it was once again pretty smooth, medium bodied, grainy, some citrus, some shortbread and a soft carbonation. Not big in taste but slipped down very easily. Cheers!

Have to go against the grain, so to speak, with this one as I found this to be exceptional. Tasted from the bottle and poured into a Weltenburger chalice. Pale yellow gold, brilliantly clear, with a flurry of fine carbonation surging up to a half inch, compact, soapy white head that lasted and left drabs of lace down the glass. Unusual, barnyard musty malt in the aroma, gritty, earthy and dry with a subtle balance of forest floor hops. Similarly gritty and husky, grainy malt flavours in the mouth; chaff, toffee and toasted grains were balanced to perfection by notes of tangerines mid-palate, and sour malt and hops in the back, finishing off with a grassy bitter and peppery hop swallow. This was a lovely Helles, that went down so swiftly and with a constant, gleaming grin on my face. Beautifully balanced and well crafted. Lovely!!! (50cL, 27/03/06, Int’l Beer Shop, W. Leederville)

I really enjoy a nice helles. I enjoyed this. A well-balanced sweetness with a lingering finish, some notes of honey and hay. A few tidbits of spice. Malts contain hints of apple. Carbonation a little flat, but it lends a slightly heavy mouthfeel that was not unpleasant.

Bottled: Golden coloured. Clear. Dense off white head. Sweet and fruity aroma. Light hoppy and grainy notes. Flavour is malty, sweet and light spiced. Is smooth and quite crisp. Notes of some grass, which leads into a light bitter end. Fairly easy to drink and medium bodied. Nice mouthfeel. Good one.

This was a treat. I was not expecting to enjoy this beer as much as I did. The taste is much of a strong lager and worth noticing some subtleties in the beer.

Poured an effervescent amber with a white fluffy head. Clean crisp aroma of some corn malt with a touch of bitter hops. Taste is light and easy-drinking... very smooth sweet creamy malt with a touch of grassy hops. No, it wasn’t special, but I enjoyed it very much.

Sweet and malty nose, notes of bread and light hops. Straw yellow colored body, beautiful white head. Malty flavor, reminds me of fresh bread dough, ends on a nice hoppy note. Very nice.
