ALLOVATE (2537) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - DEC 15, 2005
Another classic easy drinker from the Klostebrau Weltenburger. Iíve so far found their lagers to be amongst the best that Germany has to offer, and this is another on their belt. Tasted from the bottle and poured into a Weltenburger chalice. Clear, burnished copper body with a slight tinge of brown. A flurry of fine carbonation kept the dense and creamy white head in its place for the length and left a little legs. Gritty, dry and grainy nose like rye-bread and plain muesli with the slightest hint of orange peel underneath. Quite sweet, piney and very malty in the mouth; light in body and lively in carbonation. It crossed the tongue with absolute ease and finished off crisp, clean and with a little dried orange peel zest and sugary malt that lingered in the mouth briefly after the swallow. Malt driven, generously flavoured lager that, like the rest of the Weltenburger beers, went down a treat. Roll on the warmer months!!!! (50cL, 06/06/06, Intíl Beer Shop, W. Leederville)

Bottle: Deep golden to light amber coloured; deep sweet-malty nose (nutty, bready) with a tinge of honey; sweet malty start, becoming dryer soon; big malty flavour; shorter bitter-sweet finish, quite dry. A nicely rounded, very tasty Vienna !

Amber color with a tall sable light tan head. Dry malt house aromas. Nothing exciting in the nose, even a touch of fresh barnyard throws things off. Things settle down as it warms and a light floral aroma comes out. Solid light sweet malt throughout the quaff. Again nothing exiting, but nothing that throws the flavor off like the aroma. Clean and silky on the tongue. A very easy one to throw back. I think I could sit on the porch and have this all afternoon and not get tired of it.

(500 ml bottle: $2.29 at Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, CA) Ahhh, what a nice nose on this beer. Itís very toasty, malty and grainy, and the lightly sweet caramel isnít overdone, but on the down side for me, does smell a bit lagerish. The flavor follows the same direction; itís toasty, malty, grainy, sweet and somewhat caramely, but just not as flavorful as the nose suggested to me. Thereís a light bitterness toward the finish, but itís not fully balancing, not that I expect nor want it to be. Medium bodied, perhaps just a touch tiring on the palate. Light amber in color, and would be fully clear were it not for the blizzard of fine particles suspended in the beer. Solid German lager, malty just the way I like it, but seemingly not a beer Iíd choose to drink more than one of in succession.

Pale amber colour with a big off white head. Malty and grainy aroma with hints of nuts and caramel. Malty flavor with some caramel sweetness and a nutty and buttery note. Nice thick mouthfell, finish is light hoppy.

This is an awesome beer. Donít know why it is so short in the ratings. I have sampled an array of German beers and this is very distinct. Almost Belgian in influence. Like oak casts. Must be tried to be appreciated.
