Doggythedog (1541), Split, Croatia Nov 1, 2009 Bottle from the beerangel store, shared with ogivlado and heavy Medium sized off white head, thick and not going anywhere for some time. Dark red body, nice. Grainy, sweet, heavy malty nose, notes of dogfood, not bad, didn’t particularly enchant me though. Grainy taste, roasty maltiness that’s roasty in a way, so dry it’s bordering dogfood again, which isn’t all that much pleasant in my opinion. No hop, but that’s ok for the style I guess. Sorry, expected more and better, much better. mcdav2154 (289), Germany Oct 26, 2009 Beautiful dark amber color with a small off white head. Smell is of raisins, malt, light chocolate, and burnt sugar. Taste was really good with a big malt flavor and only a light bitter chocolate bite at the end that only last for a moment. Very enjoyable doppelbock. Vertical Bacon Strips (874), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Oct 25, 2009 Dark brown brew with a decent dark tan foam, spotty, sticky lacing. This stuff smells fairly foul - something reminds me of fish. Dark roasted malts, some chocolate, grass? Tons of toasted malts in the flavour with roasted as well, raisin, mid range spices works well, burnt sugar, nuts. Smooth medium full bodied brew, mild carbonation, finishes raisiny, brown sugar and weak spice. Good qualities but I really didn’t like this brew. zonmei (7), Bamberg, Germany does not count Oct 25, 2009 0.5l from the Kloster gift pack sixer. Poured into a dimpled mug and let to warm a bit. Pours very dark and the light brown head disappears quickly. It has a thick mouthfeel and the alcohol taste is prominent. There is some sweet malt flavor as it warms. AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Oct 16, 2009 Clear copper brown color with a tan head. Nice malty sweet bready, earthy molasses aromas. Medium body. Earthy sweet fruity, molasses flavors with hearty pumpernickel bread. nice WVHouseofBeer (332), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA Oct 12, 2009 Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Nice caramel aroma, with a rich caramel and raisin flavor. Body is full. This is an excellent dopplebock. Chrism86 (273), Melbourne, Australia Oct 12, 2009 Dark red/brown pour with a nice fizzy cream head that settles over time. Nose is a little muted at first, chocolate & coffee notes most prominent, quite heavy on the dark malt. Once warms the dark fruity esters come into play as does the spice. Palate is rather high in carbonation which lightens it up a touch but still rather full. Finishes with a big whack of spice & a hint of abv. Seems to have much more darker malt than i remember from the style. A good beer no doubt, with plenty of complexity. Hermod (245), Vantaa, Finland Oct 7, 2009 Mahogany.brown color, nice beige head. Very tasty, chocolate, wood. Full body, very enjoyable.
