I gotta admit.. when these get poured into their official glass, I pour as violently as possible. Now that that’s out of the way... At $2.40 for a .5L bottle this was a steal. Deep mahogony body with a large head. Aroma is dark malts with notes of caramel, chocolate, toffee. Dangerously drinkable, very tasty. Quite sweet. Almost no hops.

This I picked up as one of three new offerings at the LCBO I decided to sample. This poured beautifuly into my pilsener glass a deep chestnut brown with a slight ring of head and some lacing. Smell is a tad metallic but has some deep roasted malt notes in there. This stuff tastes very good, roasted malts make their way through the flavor with a bitterness that quickly subsides to a remarkable smoothness. Very easy to drink, goes down very nicely. This is a great beer.

High flavors of cocoa, candied sugar, dark fruit, Licorice, cola and toffee. Lightly carbonated yet malty with low amount of hops.

Medium coarse shiny beige head disappears quickly. Deek dark red barely translucent body. Deep sweet earthy malty aroma with minty licorice and roasty chocolate notes. Harmonic and balanced. Taste is deep, sweet roasty malts with earthy licorice notes and some cinnamon. Dry roasty malty aftertaste with minty notes. Light-bodied, full-flavoured, balanced and harmonic. Delicate and powerful. An excellent doppelbock. (0.5l bottle.)

courtesy of fiulijn - very dark brown colour and a little brown-tainted head; a bit toaszy, solid cookie maltiness, woody notes; sweet and full-bodied, long malty, biscuity finish with some residual sweetness

European bottle courtesy of Papsoe. Pours a dark ruby red with a nice slightly off-white head. Aroma is very sweet, like fruitcake (rich grains, dried fruit, some alcohol). Taste is more balanced than I would have thought from the aroma, with some hoppy bitterness. To be sure, it’s still extremely malty. Not in the same thick way as an imperial stout, but quite sweet. At the end of the day, it’s a nice beer, but a little sweet and one dimensional for me.

First time I had seen this in Salem. 1pt.9oz bottle. Very nice looking beer mahogany with hints of garnet round the edges, lovelly looking thick creamy tan head. Aroma is rather subdued with the malts giving a breakfast cereal like smell..not unpleasant, but unusual indeed. Taste is very malty and creamy ,hints of semi-dark chocolate in the after taste. But its mostly luxuriant creamy maltiness..I like it. Very nice on the palate a very full and pleasing mouthfeel. Not the best Doppelbock I have had but probably the smoothest and most drinkable in quantity( within reason).
