mgermani (621), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Apr 19, 2008 Pours a beautiful near-black amber with a thin pale tan head with good retention. Aroma is delicious red apples abd sweet granola. What flavour, though... wow. Wonderful sweet yeast breadiness... I’m really digging that. I’m having a tough time describing the flavours... I can imagine a nuttiness, overripe to rotten fruit (I’m talking brown, mushy peach) and maple-baked beans. Am I crazy? In short, rich dark and velvety. Body is slightly undercarbonated but oh so creamy and delicious. What a tasty, tasty beer. Thank you Robinvboyer for the trade!!!
kiefdog (482), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 12, 2008 50cl bottle from Beverage Castle (Tampa, FL). Pours a clear dark brown-reddish color with a thick and foamy tan head that settles quickly but still laces the glass. Aroma is sweet malt, milk chocolate, banana, some hints of honey, caramel and malted milk. Flavor is pretty much the same -- lots of sweet malt, chocolate, maybe some hints of toffee, caramel and ripe fruit. Generally medium body with a sweet and slightly hoppy finish. Mes_and_Sim (4487), Highgate, Greater London, England Oct 11, 2008 A Mes rate: bottle from the Bottle Stop in Bramhall. What an unexpected cracker this is. Almost black brown with a thick and creamy beige head that lasts well. A ton of caramel and rich German malts on the nose with some slight hay and almost barnyardy funk plus a lovely delicate hint of wood smoke. The flavour follows on beautifully with slight dark chocolate notes giving a subtle bitterness that balances things out superbly. Glorious finish full of chewy malt and a slight nod toward the alcohol content leaving a lingering sweet smoky aftertaste. Very good stuff indeed. kseecs16 (576), Westmont, Illinois, USA Oct 10, 2008 Bottle. Pours a not quite opaque dark brown with ruby showing against light. Big creamy tan head that laces the glass thickly. Beautiful beer. Flavor is rich malts with hints of chocolote. Dry malt predominates in this brew which becomes slightl estery as it warms. Full bodied and mouthfilling with a very dry finish. IlanMan (575), Winona, Minnesota, USA Oct 5, 2008 Pour is dark brown with a light tan fizzy head. Aroma is malty with sweet butter, brown sugar, and dark fruit. Flavor is sweet roasted malt, light chocolate, biscuits, and goodness. Very smooth carbonation. I also got a bit of toffee characters throughout the brew. Very solid beer. Would buy again. tlind2 (271), Helsinki, Finland Sep 28, 2008 500 ml bottle. Deep brown color, creamy tan head. Very appealing sweet aroma with some raisins. Wickedly smooth taste with a chocolaty finish, full body. Great!
