Pour is a dark brown with a average tan head. Aroma is caramel malts with some dark fruits. Flavor is a bit weaker but some dark malts come out and not much else. Finish is watery and unremarkable.

Optimistic (?) Bottle date of March 2009; Sampled December 2007
Pours with a frothy, initially three-finger thick, amber tinged, tan colored head that sit on top of a blackened, concentrated brown colored brew that shows a brilliantly clear, concentrated garnet color when held up to the light. Rich malt aromatics greet my nose upon my first smell of the aroma. Sweet, concentrated / caramelized malt notes, a hint of molasses, touches of chocolate, a substantial toasted note along with hints of lightly burnt toast and browned, crushed soda crackers. The rich malt aromatics almost take on a butterscotch like note as the beer warms up.

Quite light feeling up front, but it picks up some light heft towards the middle and finish. Still this is a very quaffable brew. Malt focused with darker grain flavors of caramelized malt sugar, sweet malt, touches of toasted / almost roasted malt and a really pronounced, browned, soda cracker note in the finish. The finish has a light bitterness that couples with an almost raisin like malt sweetness and a slightly dusty malt character. As the beer warms it picks up a slight herbal note that couples with the light hop bitterness in the finish.

This should really appeal to the malt lovers out there, despite being relatively low in alcohol it has a full, rich, textured malt character to it. Plus it is very light and easy drinking.

Bottle from the cave. Aroma is roasty brown ale malts, pale lager malts and some grassy herbal hop character. Taste is similar not much in the way of chocolate malts, a nice dunkel, however reminds me of a lagered brown ale.

500ml bottle @ RBNAG’07. Body is clear mahogany with a dense beige head. Aroma is quite sweet malty with actually some hints of alcohol. Flavor is sweet and malty with caramel. Medium and a bit sticky body. This beer is well composed but not very complex. This beer is widely available in Germany so could nevertheless be your best alternative in some outlying areas.

A slight smoked aroma with touches of hazelnut. Taste is rich hazelnut, a slightly metallic twinge, and caramel/chocolate over a fizzy palate. Hops make a slight presence on the finish, but only to add a little more complexity. A decent, clean beer, but overall very average.

bottle at home ... didnt live up to my hopes but ... Deep red brown ... Lager malt nose ... bit over fizzy ... little chocolate that builds ... but definite lageryness that ruins it for me.

Bottle. Brown colour. Slightly off-white head. Almost no carbonation. Malty aroma but a bit to bitter. On the overall not strong enough, too mild. My least favourite beer from this brewery.

Badgerben’s Cellar Reduction night. Brown color with dark fruits and burnt malt on the nose. Spicy yeast in the body. Very nice.
