shaeffbser (70), Vail, Colorado, USA Jan 26, 2005 Simple bock-like nose with sweet malty tones. Transulent lightmahagony color with fairly nice head. Malty, nutty with a knid of skunkish aftertaste--not necessarily bad nut watered down flavor. Slightly bittered with hops. Palate is decent but still kind of watered down. Not very impressed. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA Jan 4, 2005 Nice clear brown pour with aromas of molasses and caramel. Taste is chocolate with some sweet caramel. I usually don’t go for this style as I find them too sweet but this stuff had somewhat of a hop bite to it. Smooth and creamy with some oak in the finish. Well done. Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA Jan 3, 2005 This dunkel pours with a deep amber body topped by a thick head with a good amount of lacing. The aroma and flavor are sweet and malty with a nice bitter hoppiness and a touch of caramel. Medium bodied, smooth and slightly dry. Sickboy282 (1098), San Diego, California, USA Jan 2, 2005 Pours a clear amber/brown hue with a frothy off-white head with nice lacing. Aromas of malt, copper, and roasted nuts. Favors are very light with some smokiness, with a skunked finish.
eczematic (1198), Sydney, Australia Dec 19, 2004 yummy beer, thanks mullet. deep clear brown-red, lighter than some dunkels. smell is mostly woody munich malt with some toastiness and fresh wort smells, with also quite a lot of herbal, minty hops. flavour is creamy date sweetness, drying out with a long aromatic hop finish with a touch of chocolate and a touch of quenching acidity. not a lot of roast here but just enough to seem like a natural extension of the munich malt. fairly light bodied, but nowhere near thin in flavour. the quality of the weltenburger hops shine through here like they do in the pils - delicious leafy quinine/minty/oregano flavours lingering in the finish. this beer might be accused of lacking guts compared to some more roasty, thick soupy dunkels, but i really like the hoppy dryness. yum. bluevegie (2169), Perth, Australia Dec 16, 2004 Honey/cola coloured body with a good-size fairly lasting tan head. Meaty brothy aroma. Burnt grain taste along with bonox, malt and a hint of chocolate and caramel, good body feel with a smooth start that carries through to the finish. NoiZe (1289), Mooi Zeist, Netherlands Nov 23, 2004 Nice dark colour. For me a hard to define taste, a litlle bitter, yet sweet. Nice aroma. Nice aftertaste. Complex. mutant (854), Melbourne, Australia Nov 23, 2004 Cola colour with a persistent beige head. Very sweet and bready aroma. Big roasted malt flavour which is only slightly burnt at the end. I usually don’t like dunkels because the ones I’ve had have been one dimensional. This is more complex and better.
