[bottle] Potent aroma of toasty nuts with some bread crust. Clear brownish garnet with a lasting, dense blanket. Mice, moderately sweet bread crust malt with modest bitterness that compliments some late nuttiness. Liquorice notes. Medium body, moderate carbonation, nutty sweet finish.

(on bottle; thanx Yogi) Brandy brown, maybe at bit darker. Aroma of malts and a twik of sour mash. The coarbonation is high, but is balanced good by a fist full of good malts. Has a child-like, milkchocolately finish; my kid at 1 year diged it a lot.

From a 500 ml. euro bottle with a freshness date on the back label. Poured a ruby hued amber with a small foamy pale tan head that settled into a fine bubbly lacing, minimal amount of laced sticking. Aromas of cocoa, caramel, minerals, a subtle nuttiness and a tiny bit herbal. Good moderate carbonation and a softly malty crisp, smooth light-medium bodied mouthfeel. Pleasant tasting, lightly, lightly roasted malts, cocoa, a coffee caramel, a buried nuttiness, a mineral flavor shows up just after the middle of the taste, a herbal hop flavor, not very potent, and a malty finish with some metallic edges. Not a great German dunkel, wouldn’t be one of first five choices if I was in a bar or restaurant, but passable drinkability.

Bottle Pours a dark chestnut brown witha medium tan head and thin sticky lacing. Aroma was very nice sweet woody and carmely malt ensemble. Flavor I thought was lacking much of anything. Slightly roasted and dark but papery and slightly astringent. Dissapouinting after the big tease in the aroma. Feel was a bit thin and the carbonation was fairly soft. Thanks Buch Dich for this one.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Deep reddish brown with a moderate tan foamy head, no lacing. Yeasty and caramel aroma. Slightly roasty and caramel in the taste. Medium bodied. Very smooth, very nice. Very good dunkel.

500ml bottle. Pours a darker but clear red dark brown with a whipped frothy light tan head. Aroma of malt dust and sweet raisin bread. Classic Weltenburger completeness, dry, touch roast, some bitterness at first, hint of acidity, subtle delicately roasted nuts, touch ashy, just the perfect hint of rich toffee/burnt sugar, finishing lightly bready, touch of raisin, exceptionally clean. Medium/light bodied, milky sensation, seemingly watery, light larger fizzy carbonation. A very very good dunkel. Easy drinking and very well balanced.

On tap in the Klosterschenke 21 Jun 07. Dark golden colored. A small white head. Weak aroma. A cautious fruity flavor with faint fruity aftertaste. Sweet fruity impression.

(6/21/08) From (I think fake) cask at the Leipziger Bierbörse festival in Leipzig. Deep brown color with a beige head. Aroma of toasted, slightly roasted malt and caramel. Sweetish flavor of malt, toasted bread and caramel. Medium-bodied. A decent Dunkel.
